Armies of Arabia is the first comprehensive analysis of the Gulf monarchies’ armed forces, including their political, social, and economic characteristics, foreign relations, and battleground performance. Please join the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Emeritus Chair in Strategy on Friday, November 12 for a conversation on militaries of the Arabian Peninsula. Dr. Anthony Cordesman, Emeritus Chair in Strategy at CSIS, will be joined by Dr. Zoltan Barany, the author of Armies of Arabia.

Zoltan Barany is a Senior Associate with the Burke Chair in Strategy and the Frank C. Erwin Jr. Centennial Professor of Government at the University of Texas. Throughout his career, his research and writing have concentrated on military politics, military sociology, and democratization globally. His recent books include How Armies Respond to Revolutions and Why; The Soldier and the Changing State: Building Democratic Armies in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas; and Is Democracy Exportable – all have been translated into Arabic.
