Prabir Purkayastha discusses the findings of a recent study which traces the ancestry of the people of India and other parts of South and Central Asia. The study answers where we got our languages from, how we may have learnt farming practices, and what characteristics can be seen in the population of South and North Indians.

Why so much hatred in the comment section? We are all pure indians. No matter how we look. Migration happened in every country so in India and other South Asian countries. In the video they are just talk how migration happened and from which parts of the world. They are not trying to divide us.

Isn't it ironic that people accept the fact that Alexander came to India from Europe but same people refuse to accept people from Eurasia migrated to India earlier.

Everyone is a migrant from somewhere
No one is a local from the beginning

so in a nutshell... Indians are a mix of black ppl from Africa and white ppl from iran and Europe... North Indians have more white dna and south Indians have more black dna.

The IE migration map shown, starting at 2:00, is outrageously simplified.
1) Sintashta Culture (South Oural), that gave the Andronovo Culture (Central Asia) didn't descend directly from Yamnaya Culture (the initial one, in Southern Russia) but from a 75% Yamnaya people : Balto-Slavic Europeans belonging (like many other Europeans at that time) to the Corded Ware Culture, that they exported till Central Asia.
2) Some Yamnaya people had, far before that European movement to the East, had gone extremely far to the East, reaching Altaï Mountains where they created the Afanassievo Culture... NOT to confuse with Andronovo Culture from where stemmed the Indo-Aryans after their brutal, necessary brutal and murderous (no politically correct BS was present at that time) collision with the Oxus Civilization.

Dr. Prabir Purkayastha, there IS DNA evidence from the Indus Valley Civilization.  The Indus Valley Civilization shows the absence of R1a1 type of Y-Haplogroup.  Whole genome data from Indus Valley is pending publication.  The whole genome sequence is expected to show no Steppe ancestry in the Indus Valley Civilization.

I'm seeing a great deal of irrational reaction to the very nuanced argument being made here. This is a discussion about a recent Scientific paper, if you aren't an expert in the space then it will be very difficult for you to gain a correct understanding of the concepts being relayed.

To come to this first humble of your limitations in this discussion being a non expert is the FIRST step of a rational human being.

Second, it is important ...knowing ones limitations to constantly check ones expectations for language used in this discussion against the usage of those words in a Scientific context ...for example, as Scientists "theory" is a much more refined and rigorous descriptor than the laymen assumption that it means "a guess". This is wrong...if you are prone to making this mistake when you hear in this video "migration", "admixture", "mixing", "gradient" then you are simply not prepared to engage in any aspect of this discussion. You should step back...educate yourself...formalize your thinking to be Scientifically rigorous then come back.

As a Scientist and Engineer ...having this discipline is the principle tool to allowing absorption of complex new ideas in the ongoing research in the areas we seek expertise or even just basic understanding...laymen wishing to participate in Scientific conversations MUST respect this fact.

Finally, for those who have rejected the idea of migrations into the sub continent to form its modern form (a contention which is completely uncontroversial to any linguist, archeologist or geneticists as of 2018...in fact it is as certain a fact as the reality of a hot sun in the sky) I pose you a question.

Do you accept that modern homo sapiens sapiens emerged from Africa around 80, 000 years ago and succeeded to replace homonid cousins they found along the way (Neanderthal, Denosivan and at least two unnamed cousins).

If you do (and you must as the evidence for this is also as certain as a hot sun) then you must agree that migration into the subcontinent happened from outside at least at this point in time. From there one can gain an epiphany of understanding the nuance of the argument being made in this video and what that means....this is not a restatement of anything new...it is yet another reduction in the fog of ignorance that had existed in our understanding of the complexity of the migrations. The question of if they happened is obvious for all reasons.

Note even here the careful language used to describe this particular research in the video at the end:

"Looking at our own history...which have taken place in Eurasia...and the unity of the human civilization is also important. That we all came from Africa, then we had these two major expansions that took place in Eurasian and this what has shaped what we know the modern society to be ..or a major part of it. "

^^^ That's the qualified statement of Scientist who knows the research very well. Heed his example.

For those who couldn't capture everything, don't worry! The most important thing to remember is that you all came out of Africa!

Shout out to all African brothers!

Very informative video and so much of information is covered. Every time I listen to it I understand something more which I missed the previous time.
And for the people fighting in the comment section about Aryan/Dravidian, North vs South controversies, the genetic difference between all of us Indians and even south Asians as a whole doesn't have any clean divide of 2 groups. All of us are admixture of Ancestral North Indian and Ancestral South Indian population groups. Of course there is a gradient of high to low proportion of ANI when you go further south into India from the North.
Not even everyone speaking the same language and identifying as same cast today is going to have similar admixture of ANI and ASI. To put it in simple terms if you test the DNA of everyone in a caste group within a single state in India you will find a varying admixture of ANI and ASI.
So moral of the story: All of these studies and findings should excite us Indians that we are all a mixed group and very closely related to each other genetically no matter what language we speak and where we live in India now.

All historians, scientists and Archeologists who rely on scientific evidences to understand history are pointing towards one side and the Sanghaparivar historians are pointing in the other direction. What an irony.
But truth will prevail.

I don't see why people are getting annoyed for no reason. Isn't it exciting to know that people from North Africa, Europe, Middle East, Central Asia and Indian Subcontinent are connected by a common ancestry.

I think we should be glad of the fact that we're related, connected, and that we share common origins. There is no shame in accepting the truth, when in fact the truth is so interesting. (I say truth because although this a theory, it is backed by strong DNA trails, archaeological findings and linguistic reconstructions)

Still we argue each other for no good reason whatsoever. It's high time people realise that we should end the needless clamour and embrace the different cultures we have, as we're basically the same people who got separated on our journeys. The Sanskrit saying, "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (The world is my family) summarises this scientific theory and also my point.

Indians and Africans are the descendants of Cush. Cushites settled in Africa, Middle East & Asia. Most Indians are through the linage of Seba one of the sons and Cush. In the ancient times India used to be called eastern Ethiopia and Indian Ocean used to be called Ethiopian ocean, there is a reason to that. Most light skinned Indians are a result of intermarriage with Europeans and some Persians/Arabs. Indians and Africans are one people, I am surprised that nobody is talking about it. It’s mind blowing that everyone want to be associated with Europe why?

A great attempt to explain how civilisations developed in Eurasia based on a very work. This is may be the very first of it's kind in Indian web channels. As a viewer want more of such programs. Like to suggest that whole program perhaps much easier to understand if divided into 4/5 parts, using along side the time bar, topography, land elevation and
flow of various ethnic gruops and their provable mixing. Plus separate episode for major language gruops and ethnic groups. Thank you newsclick.
