Field Notes Pencil Review

Here is a pencil I've been wanting to try for a long time, but just hadn't gotten around to it. The Field Notes pencil features a round barrel, natural cedar wood with a black imprint, a silver ferrule and green eraser. I have a few Field Notes notebooks which I really enjoyed, so I was looking forward to trying the pencil.

I’m a big fan of Field Notes and their products. I really wanted to like this pencil - even before I began watching pencil reviews (Yes, we live in a crazy world, but here we are!) I could tell I didn’t like this one. A pity that this was a miss for Field Notes. Let’s hope they come out with a great follow up in the future. There is always room for redemption!

Your thoughts on this pencil are incredibly similar to mine. As much as I tried to use up this pencil (I got one as a freebie YEARS ago) I just couldn't get myself to like how it wrote and eventually gave it away.

Is there a legal requirement to include the country of origin on products?

I prefer round pencils. I like how they feel in my hand. But it’s getting harder and harder to find them. Do you have any recommendations?

It’s at least a 2H and definitely not an HB. How does Field Notes get away with falsely advertising this lead as HB?

Interesting review. Another good drawing pencil as it lends itself to the lighter side even though it is #2. Not impressed w/ it's eraser for complete removal, but it too, has some pros in that respect. Like how it's "green " type for recycling. Love your handwriting. Now I am a subscriber here, too.

I love Natural Pencils, there’s just something about them, how they feel, look, & perform is different from regular lacquered pencils.

It’s been a long time since I used one, I remember I have a pack or two of them lost somewhere in my HUGE Pencil Collection. The Field Notes as I remember performs well and sharpens well, depending on the sharpener you use, I usually get those cheap sharpeners from either Walmart or Target. The Dollar Tree had some good multi colored oval shaped Pencil Sharpers with a huge eraser attached to one end, haven’t been able to find more since.

One way to fit the loosen Ferrule on tight is to put it on the end of the pencil, and then twist until you feel the ferrule grip the wooden barrel. If done like so, the ferrule should be on tight and not wiggly loose
