Those 1lb tanks have a dimple on the bottom. Once that dimple is gone. The tank is compromised and needs to be thrown away.

My wife and i live in a country that's currently going through an energy crisis.

We've had our power cut intermittently pretty much every day for the last two years, sometimes unannounced, and sometimes for much longer than we were told (up to 72 straight hours).

We bought a gas heater and propane camping grill early on, but we've gone full survival mode recently.

We installed solar panels on our roof and have a backup petrol generator that can power the whole house.

We're not messing around with disaster potential after the last two years of hell threatening our jobs and livelihoods.

I just use an adapter for a big tank to the heater

Great info, but as much as I want to try this, I’m scared. The accident with Buckley at the Mega Lo Mart really spooked me.

Buy the canisters that are meant to be refilled. I have 4 and rotate them with my buddy heater. I personally would not take a 20lb propane tank into my home to run a heater

A propane/ naptha lantern not only gives you light it heats a small room quite well ..

Those buddy heats have a conversation line that allows you to use the 20Lbs tanks instead of using the 1-lbs tanks. But that's an awesome hack.

Just get the 6 ft filtered hose to go from the barbecue tank, which you keep outside your window, through the cracked window, into the room where the big buddy heater is.

Mr Heater sells this hose!

Don't take the risk of refilling those crappy disposable 1-pounders. At least by the flame king kit, if you're going to do that.

I own those as well. I'm not in the least bit tempted to refill a disposable Coleman tank.

I’ve had the adapter for a couple years, and I’ve been stocking up the empty 1 pound tanks. Haven’t had the chance to try this yet, but we’ve got an empty 20lb tank I’d like to exchange soon and fill all those 1lb tanks.

Or just hook the 20 lb up to the heater

I hope you know that every time you say “rinse and repeat“ some idiot is going to fill the thing with water and try to rinse it out. We have people who drink bleach in this country.

BE CAREFUL ... Conduct your own due diligence about refilling those particular tanks. Refilling tanks is a good idea assuming you have the correct tanks (refillable) and refilling apparatus, which is readily available without the "kit" (which adds expense). Basically, the refill scenario will pay for itself with the 2nd refill you perform. Good Luck

Have the adapter and several 1lb tanks, Ive tried this method several times, and only able to get a few ounces into the 1lb tank. Tried heating the 20lb tank and chilling the 1 lb tank, still nothing.

I buy every empty one at garage sales 😊

Didn't bother mentioning that it's illegal or unsafe due to these bottles being cheap and weakly constructed.

I'd rather tote a portable hot tent stove, endless material to burn and it fits in a backpack. I tried the gas thing and it isn't for me.

Bleed the 1 lb tank after filling, otherwise you're lucky to get 1/3 of a fill

I wouldn't that that is not safe.

I would NOT recommend this. There is no way to know when it is full and relying on listening for it to stop hissing is idiotic and very dangerous.
