In this woodworking project I show you how to make a dining table with big beefy legs and an apron quickly and easily with pocket hole joinery. Everything is made from 3/4" material including the legs and all boards are ripped to the same width which makes this project ideal for any skill level with a few basic tools.

Make it wooden with the help of the Wood Prix instructions.

Here's a tip for making better legs from thin boards: cut the angle at slightly more than 45 degrees so the front face is extremely tight. There should be a very small gap where the miters meet on the inside of the leg. This allows all the glue squeeze out to go inside the leg and the face stays pristine.

Also, I suggest using tape to hold it instead of pin nails.

it helps a lot to tape the miters while they are laying flat.then flip them over, apply glue and fold. the tape will hold them perfectly in place. easier than pins, more effective than pins, faster than pins, and nothing to fill. an even BETTER way is to use a rabbet joint instead of miters. its easier and you dont get a seam on the corner where its more noticeable. having solid corners really makes it look more like a solid leg. if your rabbets are 5/8 deep on 3/4 material and you do a 1/8" roundover, the roundover hides the seam almost entirely because it just looks like the edge of the profile. :)

It turned out pretty nice, Dave! I agree with your attitude: when you buy something it had better be perfect because your only recourse is to... buy something else. When you make it you have tons more options. Patch it, pull it apart and redo it, or toss it and build something else. The process is the point.
Who doesn’t expect that, when teaching yourself how to cook, that every once in a while you won’t be taking one bite and saying, “....nope.” This is the best way to learn.
Thanks!

I always forget, can just fix it if it goes wrong, and this is how we learn. Great video!

"What if it breaks?" "Fix it!" Words to live by.

Thanks Dave for that great end to the vid. I’ve built a ton of stuff non-traditionally and experimenting is learning. I’ve been fortunate with the success of my projects. I would also say being a wood mechanic makes you a better woodworker.

Some people can only elevate themselves on the backs of others.

These days store bought furniture is disposable so if you get a few years out of it or a couple moves you have your money's worth. If the furniture you build last longer than the store bought stuff you are ahead from the get go AND if there is an issue you have the knowledge and experience to make your own repairs. That's one of the awesome things about building it yourself.

By the way, speaking from a professional photograph's viewpoint, that table has stunning lines with the chevron in the middle. Awesome design David.

That is exactly what I have been looking for our dining table I’m making as my very first project with no ideas how woodworking works. So, wish me luck 🍀 … I think 💭 I need a lot of them… Cheers!!!

Ive been watching this channel for a very long time and the reason i love it so much is becasue of the joking mood, most channels are just all facts and no horseplay but this is actually entertaining

Love the look of those legs! And yes exactly, that's the best part of knowing how to build your own stuff... if it breaks, you know how to fix it. Simple!

This table wows me every time I see it. Fantastic work. Every time I make a mistake, er, I mean add character to the piece, it's just as fun fixing it.

I think your logic on the top is sound...and I AGREE... experimentation is the best part of making stuff!

Keep us posted on how it handles the next thirty years!

I totally agree that if we make it and if it gets effed up, we can totally fix it! I'm currently working on a patio table using pine boards from HD and I'm using pocket holes to attach the aprons to the legs and top, but I know there is a chance for it to get wonky because of temp fluctuation and such, and you know what? I'm ok with it. Haha!

Great build and design, David! 👍🏼

Great table. Very cool idea with the legs. Side note: I screwed my K5 to a piece of scrap, which I then clamp to my work bench to hold it in place while drilling. Changed my life for doing lots of pocket holes 😎

Wasn't sure about the table but seeing it in your house actually changed my mind. Looks good

I’ve been looking for legs made like this. I’m building an island. I can draw the plan but watching you build it really helped. Thank you

9:59 - PERfect just absolutely perfect, I started my business about 6 years ago and one of the first things i made was a cutting boardfor my wife. I used pine. woodworking friends just went crazy. " You can't use pine" me " why " them " it will wear out and not last long" !!!! .... I felt shame and embarrassment. and 6 years later we still have the cutting board and there's some wear. but for the most part ITS NOT A BIG DEAL !!! i can make another one. I'm trying to learn and how i learn is through exploration and experimentation!!!! I made tables out of doug fir and might not ever do that again but by doing it i know the what and why about it all. Thanks for the vid bro and i love the POD cast.

I love this idea for the legs and apron. I'll probably steal it for a hallway table I'm planning with a live edge top!
