How To Build a HIGH QUALITY Dining Table with LIMITED TOOLS // #DIY // #Woodworking

I recently got a commission from a local client to build a custom Dining Table top for a set of pre-fabricated steel legs they had previously bought on Etsy. I went to my local lumber supplier and got pre-surfaced 1.75" thick white oak to build everything out of. I spent $350 on materials and only used 3 power tools: The circular saw, Drill/Driver, and Belt Sander. "Nice projects don't require tons of tools." This is something I say all the time... practice what you preach.

STUFF I USED:
1.5" wood screws

Make it wooden with the help of the Woodglut instructions.

This is exactly what I have been looking for last few days. I am very interested in woodworking and had actually taken a class about it in high school. So far only thing I have done was a hardwood cutting board which I cut from a piece of log using a chain saw. I didn't have any other tools at the time so I hand sanded it. Took a while but I have been using it for last 3 years.

Now I have a power drill and a circular saw and wanted to make something a bit more interesting. A smaller version of this table will be a great start. Thanks!

I appreciate a build that doesn't require expensive tools.

6:21 Look at the right end of the table. There is a big bow up across the width of the table.

I think using the caul boards the way he did works but there is a better way. Usually over that distance and that grain direction the caul boards will bend, ultimately not keeping your table completely flat. Flip those boards on the edge grain, give them maybe a 2degree cut from each end meeting in the middle, this will account for any bend. This is how you get a really flat table top without having to use a planer. Other option of course is to just take that table top to a commercial planer somewhere.

Very nice table. I feel like I'm watching a Jim Carrey movie where the actor looks into the camera every 2 minutes to advertise something. This guy must be killing it with sponsors.

Gotta admit... I had to replay just to see how Chris and Ben had become so GQ. Excellent build.

Nice table but I do have one concern. Do those legs allow for wood movement. If not, this table(may take years) will split if the wood is not allowed to expand and
contract seasonally. If use use screws smaller than the holes with large flat washers in the legs, this should do the trick. Keep up the good work.

I agree with you on the legs. They look a little flimsy. The table top is beautiful.

i'm getting a new house/work space in february! Your videos have brought me to tears with motivation and happiness through a bad depression. Thank you for what you do. I'll definitely be tagging my work that's either work you've done, or inspired by your work once i have the tools and house! Thank you so much!

I learned apparently if you put tape down on the wood first (like painters tape) it will help for a smoother straight cut. I'm going to have to test it out for when I build my dinning table. LOVE your video's btw.

When you started doing wood working did you already have most of your tools? Did you buy them online, Craigslist, store? Were they given to you? Are there any tips you can give on specific power tools that you wish you knew before hand?
