The UK Government is suspending around 30 arms export licences to Israel amid concerns a “clear risk” exists that they could be used to breach international humanitarian law.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy said a review conducted by the UK Government could not “arbitrate on whether or not Israel has breached international humanitarian law” in Gaza, but ministers have a legal duty to review export licences.

Talk’s Peter Cardwell discusses the news with military and defence analyst Col. Simon Diggins.

There are a lot in the Labour party, including Lammy, who would dearly love to send those arms to Hamas: and do it for free, at our expense!

Lammy visited the Israeli PM two weeks ago but the Israeli PM didn't want to speak to him! It just seems strange what our government has done, payback one thinks!! 😮

My love for the labour party of governments grows. They're heros. I regret voting for the reform party. I realise its a scam

Short term might have some impact. Middle term, either Israel will build its own of find other suppliers. See for example the building of highly successful Israeli tanks and other items boycotted by a Labour UK Gov. way back when. And Israel becomes a competitor rather than a client. Long term. loss of re-sales as and when Israel might have sold on, a second hand, but extremely well-maintained by them, British tank or other equipment. Also spare parts market for that equipment. And of course reputation in military procurements circles. However when it comes to virtue-signalling, Guardian readership, and bowing to the Bradford lobby, 100%.
