New Delhi has conveyed its “concerns” to Washington on the US Ambassador to Pakistan’s visit to Gilgit and Baltistan. India lodged the strongest protest after US envoy to Pakistan, David Blome made a 'secret' six-day visit to PoK. Blome’s visit was the second high-profile visit by a US diplomat to PoK, after US Congresswoman Illhan Omar visited the region. India has consistently objected to West recognising the sovereignty of India concerning undivided Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, UK MP Andrew Gwynne has called for a UN-monitored plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir during his visit to Pakistan and PoK.

It could be because the US and it's close allies want to take a clear stand. It is very likely that Pakistan will agree for a referendum or plebiscite under UN monitoring in PoK if the people in that region want to join Pakistan or India or remain independent.
