The problem using a sheep shank for the loop on the truckers hitch is that even a slight loss in tension will cause the rope to become loose.

Very good. I subbed. I go around and tie a simple slip-loop and pull it back thru and throw two half hitches around both ropes, the last of which is a slip loop, then drop the tag end thru the loop. That's my safety. It depends how many circuits you run as to how much force you can attain

Sheepshank knot isn’t secure, this is fine if you’re just tying up extra rope, but it can roll under load and come loose easily

Use an alpine butterfly as the tension tie off point instead.
