Featuring The Crusaders

Composers : Joe Sample, Will Jennings

Lyrics :

There were times, I remember,
Had to fight just to hold my head up
Those times when even my friends
Tried to make a fool of me
There were things that my heart looked at
That they just couldn't see

Some said I was hopeless
Mind tangled in the night
Strong hearts just keep goin',
That is why I'm still standing here today

Chorus :

Come together
Raise up your voices
This time my song of love and life won't go away
I'll sing forever here in the sunshine
I've lived to see the sun break through the storm
I'm so glad I'm standing here today

If your lost in your troubles
And the world just seems to forget you
If you remember sunshine
Even on your darkest day
Just follow what your heart says
And you'll find the way

Some said I was hopeless
Mind tangled in the night
Strong hearts just keep goin'
That is why I'm still standing here today

Chorus x 2

I've lived to see the sun break through the storm
I'm so glad I'm standing here today

I'm one of the biggest fans of Magnum PI and Tom Selleck. I have to say that I love this song and it always brings me so many different emotions. Too bad nobody really sings songs like that these days.

This fits all the people who have struggled with their demons what ever they were. Made after Joe got clean. Still brings tears to my eyes after all these years. Stay strong but don't be afraid to ask for help. Love You All.

I bought this album in 1981 and fell so in love with this song which became my mantra after going through a very dark and emotional period in my life. With the help of spirituality I made it through and this song so fits me. Thanks so very much for posting. This revelation that things will continue to be ok no mattter what.

Every time I hear this song, I feel something in the corners of my eyes. ;-) . A truly great song of hope.

When (in a docu) asked why he made those spastic movements with hands and arms he said that Ray Charles was his idol and that at first he tried to imitate Ray's piano playing. As he (Joe) always got carried away when performing, he did not concentrate on the hand movements. Later he did not care and the strange spastic movements became (one of) his trademark(s).

Love the guy.

I’ll never forget being a teenager and me and my friends whined and complained until my mom agreed to take us to see “Woodstock”. Cocker was the only performer she liked, not surprising since she was also a big fan of Ray Charles. And “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” is my number 3 favorite live album after “woodstock’ and ‘Four Way Street”.
