BLACKMAGIC DID IT AGAIN!!! PYXIS 12K first impressions!

You inspire me, and I believe thousands of others, to buy Blackmagic cameras. When I first saw your footage, I thought, "These are real CINEMA cameras." I'm still in love with my BMPCC 6K Pro. It helps me realize any of my ideas. So, here's a question: why aren't you the main ambassador for Blackmagic yet? You must shoot commercial videos for them! You have to be the first person who will test their new products!

I shoot Sony FX6/3 now and I could not justify the budget for a Burano which has left me waiting (and waiting and waiting) to see what the FX9 upgrade path was going to be, hoping the price and features would make sense. But instead I have put in a preorder for the Pyxis 12k. No more waiting for Sony. Which is not to say I will dump the FX6 this year. There’s still times when ISO12800 seems to be the only answer given the available light, but let’s see how much I can squeeze out of the RGBW sensor with some testing and Davinci Resolve NR. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on one.

The PYXIS 12K is definitely on my wish list. I shot with the BMPCC4K and I fell in love with the color science of BRAW. The moment I can afford the PYXIS 12K, I will get it. In the meantime, I bought the BRAW update for my LUMXI S5ii and have started shooting BRAW again. Although, it doesn't have the same colors as the BM cameras because it's using the sensor of the S5ii, but, having access to 12-bit RAW is always good because it gives me choices.

Yes, the autofocus update was very trivial to me-- never use it and don't really care for it. Between The DaVinci Resolve 20 updates and the Pyxis 12K I'm extremely excited. Literally was just about to get the Pyxis 6K but now I will most definitely wait and buy 12K

I love my 6K Pro, but I want to level up and the 12k is almost the perfect level up. Price - performance ratio is huge! The only thing that is stopping me from buying it is the lack of internal NDs (and money, but this is could be fixed haha). I know there are a lot of solutions, but it's too good to have internal NDs for my type of shooting. I know the sensor is on another level, but maybe BM could made a pro version in the future 😁 p.s. davinci 20 is a huge update!

My excitement cooled down a bit once I learnt that the readout speed/rolling shutter only half as fast as the Ursa Cine.
In 12k mode it is about 20-24ms which is just okay (depending on aspect ratio, open gate 6k on S1H is pretty bad at 30ms, for reference).
In 8k and 4k its pretty good at 11-13ms. But 12k mode has about stop more DR available. So, now we have to pick and choose, 12k for scenes where things aren't moving fast and 8k for fast paced. Where as in Ursa Cine, we don't have to but the body is much bigger made for crews not so much for solo shooters.
But despite the readout speed caveat, it is still great. Even in 8k/4k, it got 15 stops DR and allows full frame open gate and the only thing thats beating it under $20k is the Ursa Cine itself. I so wish we got the exact speeds of it but i think we're limited by the battery (14v vs 26v) to pull it off in Pixys body.

Do you believe the 12k Pyxis will perform better than the normal Pyxis in lowlight as it seems to have overall more dynamic range in shadows ?

It's not clear to me if there is the option for some sort of 3X clear image zoom when shooting 4K..
