Of all the companies, Yaesu is the master of creating the most convoluted, backwards, and risky, manuals, menus, and firmware upgrades. It’s quite impressive and they never fail to amaze 😅.

My guess is the firmware software engineers also write the menu software for their HF radios. That for the clarity Josh! 73

I am so disappointed that after going through the process of updating the firmware to find out that it doesn't show which channels it is scanning while in memory mode and that it only applies to VFO mode. I had been following along with the video and didn't see the memory scan until after I'd done the update. Thanks for the video Josh! It was very informative.

Performed the upgrade today, and verified that this set of instructions works perfectly. Thanks for the clear video... and walking through the mess that is Yaesu's update process!

NOTE to all radio manufacturers: If you need to read a PDF to update firmware, you've failed.

Yaesu disappoints users again and as usual. 😝 Thanks for the video.

Wow, thank you so much, I didn’t install the NET 3.5 SP1 because my computer just did an update to the NET Framework and I wasn’t able to install the firmware update, kept getting an error message saying the radio was not connected.
Your little sentence saying even though it is an old version from 2008 install it just made the difference!
Thanks again!

Excellent Instructional video Josh!!!! I did everything you described and my FT5D is updated and no BRICK as everyone I talked to told me might happen. You rock Josh, I trust your word over HRO's

Thanks for the walkthrough, Josh. Yaesu's directions were about as clear as mud. 73!

Thanks for making this update a lot less stressful! The 500 was just a matter of loading to the SD card. Great video. I bricked a FTM-100 a few years ago updating my fault

Hope this flash goes well. I had a hell of a time on the last update. And, yes, I followed the manual...

Just did it. At the end, I didn't switch the secret switch back to center and spent a hot minute thinking I bricked the radio. Really an awful user experience, but I guess it's better than soldering a jumper in.

Most covoluted cumbersome update as expected by yeasu. Used supplied cable, needed magnifying glass to find switch to flip for position, faults & errors with downloaded drivers, battery removal (??), plug-unplug A/C power when prompted ... Sheesh! Anything else ? Updates should not take entire morning resolving issues and referencing manual multiple times for the update and retracing steps to ensure a good install. Have a backup to reinstall all your settings

Think I'll wait for the next update that covers the memory channels.

Good news indeed. Now I want one. I can't get lithium ion packs for my ft-60 sent to me out here. I might as well just upgrade to another radio. I might have to bite the bullet and get a triband for work and listening to ATC. Thanks for the knowledge, Josh. We need an emoji of a guy scratching his neck like a crackhead while looking at new radios...🤣🤙🏾

Why would you allow scan under VFO mode and not memory baffling 73 de N1AD

Great news, but does anybody know if I can do this update on a Mac?

nice video. i tried it and the little switch broke and fell into the radio. sent it back to yaesu. they claim the board is broken, and is not covered by warranty, have a nice day with my 500 dollar brick. too make things worse, gigparts agrees. even though i purchased an extended warranty. still arguing the point. but if i can brick it with a toothpick, it's not worth buying, is it?
