5 Things I DON’T CARE ABOUT Anymore As A Recent Retiree

💲 NEED FINANCIAL ADVICE? 💲
1) Google "fee-only financial adviser" or visit www.NAPFA.org (largest association of fee-only financial advisers). NOT an affiliate link
2) The first question to ask any financial adviser is, "Are you a fiduciary to me 100% of the time". Get the answer in writing
3) Please note that some people call themselves "fee-based". This is NOT the same as fee-only. Fee-only advisers have committed to being fiduciary to you 100% of the time.
4) Personally, I would only hire an adviser who is a fiduciary to me 100% of the time. This is not a suggestion on what you should do. Just sharing my personal preference.

⚠️ Azul's "Scammer" Warning ➡ PLEASE READ! ⚠️
Be careful of scammers. In the comments section, I will NEVER ask you to contact me, offer any investment products, recommend a stock broker, or anything similar. Some scam bot commenters 'ask' for investment help, and later, other comment bots reply with "how great X idea/investment/person is" in the replies. These are scam threads. Do not fall for them.

🚨 Azul's VIDEOS ARE NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE (Disclaimer) 🚨

The decisions on how to invest, when to retire, and other financial planning topics are some of the most important financial decisions you will make in your life. I urge you to seek professional financial advice as you make this decision. Ideally, from a financial adviser, AND a CPA AND an attorney. Having the perspective of all three professions will help you make the right decision for you and your family.

This information is being presented without consideration of the investment objectives, risk tolerance, or financial circumstances of any specific investor and may NOT be suitable for all investors.

This information is NOT intended to, and should NOT, form a primary basis for any investment decision that you may make. Always consult your own legal, tax, and/or investment advisor before making any investment/tax/estate/financial planning considerations or decisions.

Spoiler Alert: There are no "get rich" programs. Rather, just basic blocking & tackling and putting in time and care. Do your homework, choose wisely and (IMHO) work with experienced professionals who are fiduciary to you 100% of the time.

Happy fruitful year, I'm beyond excited! In just one week I'll be debt-free, having paid off my entire $285, 000 debt and begun a new chapter of financial freedom.

Don't simply retire from something; have something to retire to. Start saving, keep saving, and stick to investments.
Building wealth involves establishing routines, like consistently setting aside funds at regular intervals for smart investments.,

The concept of mini-retirement changed my life. I'm no longer waiting for some retirement paradise when I'm 65. It helps to know how to fund the lifestyle. You know, making money while you sip that piña colada by the beach does help. I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise.

I retired last June about 9 months earlier than I had planned mostly due to your videos. I am thoroughly enjoying retirement. Thank you.

I sure do enjoy your videos. 8 days from retirement. 68 years old, worked 50 years, scared to death! Thanks for the encouragement.

I wouldn't count you as retired. You make dozens of videos a month, which must be equivalent to a full-time job - hours wise. Keep up the good work!

Wow, you really speak from my heart! I retired three and a half years ago at 55 and can relate to all five of your thoughts. It is liberating to hear from you and to understand that I am not alone with my “crazy” thoughts and emotions. Thank you so much for your insights!

Retirement becomes truly fulfilling when you possess two essential elements: ample financial resources and a meaningful purpose in life. Make prudent investment choices to secure good returns and ensure a comfortable retirement.

This is a joyous and liberating video. The notions of managing time, pursuing what matters to you, not caring about what others think about your decision, making continuous learning a priority and removing the perceived shackles of spending is powerful. Well done. Spread the word.

you had me at ''i don't care anymore''.
not an attitude, a lifestyle. never considered
'' outside influences''.

Thank you Azul. I retired in June of 2024 and your videos have been wonderful in helping me to prep for this new book. Some say it's a new chapter in ones life, but I'm finding it to be a new book. So, as I start my new "Me Volume II" it has been an interesting mindset for me to let go of the work me and move into the retired me. You mentioned "fly fishing, " and I too love this activity. As I sit here typing I am finishing my packing for a fly fishing adventure to the Amazon, leaving tonight for Brazil. I'm excited and nervous and happy I can do this now at 60 knowing and hoping it will be the first of many new and exciting adventures. Thank you.

Great video Azul. I turned 60 this year and now pondering more than ever my next steps. The company on work for is potentially heading into a period of substantial growth and during that period, I suspect my experience and love of fixing or facing a challenge will be useful but I’m also wondering about me and what is best for me which is something different. It’s so difficult to break the eat, sleep repeat cycle given it provides comfort and purpose but I’m finding myself more and more thinking about how I’d choose to spend my time if it all belonged to me.. I wish I was on Wall Street when you made this vid so we could go for a coffee and have a chat :). Keep making the videos, you’re an inspiration

Great video and Happy New Year from the UK. Your posts are encouraging as, having lived the corporate world as a consultant, in retirement (at 61) my sense of purpose has been a challenge. My wife didn't have the same issue and encourages my to take up hobbies but it is a challenge teaching an old dog new tricks...keep up the good work.

I always thought I would work until I was 65-70. I retired a few days after I turned 60 which was the earliest I could retire with full retirement pension benefits. It's been 3 years now. I have loved every bit of it. We are not into travelling. My hobbies are simple - Golf and pickleball. Both are done locally and as much as I want. I have kids and grandkids close by. It has been perfect. OK... but, I recently was diagnosed with high risk prostate cancer (no cure, but treatments may control it for many years.) Some health issues are out of our control. So I'm ecstatic that I retired as soon as I could and didn't spend any more time working.

Some people say they enjoy their jobs. But do you enjoy your job more than your hobbies or spending time with those you love? If so... never retire. But, if you enjoy other things more than your work, then retire as soon as you possibly can. I believe that many people overplan and over prepare financially for retirement. The simple stuff of retirement is way more important than the financial aspects and bucket lists.

The frugality thing, to find a bargain, is a game for me. I get satisfaction from the process.

The trick is loosening up with others, particularly your spouse if they don’t share the art of finding the deal.

All my friends are retired. None of them are 65 yet.

I think we are all strange in a way Azul. I agree with all your points you have raised. Retiring early is a great thing, I am glad I retired 2 years ago at 56. I am currently slow travelling around the world. Enjoy your retirement and love the videos.

I retired a year ago. I'm 50 now and I can't keep my days straight. Great waking up without any worries.
