Japan's Amazing Train Station Like 'Spirited Away': Shimonada, Takamatsu to Yawatahama

We board the limited express train from Takamatsu to Shimonada Station, which is said to be the model for the station in the Ghibli movie "Spirited Away", a worldwide hit.
Trains arrive only once every two to three hours. The ocean stretches out before your eyes. I thought it was an unmanned station in the countryside, but it turned out to be a major tourist attraction visited by many Instagrammers.
Enjoy!

<<<NOTICE!>>>
0:34 The official name of "UDON" Prefecture is "KAGAWA". The name "Udon Prefecture" is used for tourism purposes. In fact, the name is on the station sign at Takamatsu Station.
7:34 Implicit rules are my JOKE. But please don't forget to be considerate of each other.

Every scenery, every place and every moments of Japan gives me nostalgia. I love that station so much.

I've always loved how modern infrastructure and architectures in Japan harmoniously compliment the sceneries instead of ruining them.

When you think you've missed the train: Reality is often disappointing-
When the conductor opens the door for you: *This, does put a smile on my face*

Shimonada Station was opened on 9 June 1935 as the terminus of the then Yosan Main Line which had been extended westwards from Iyo-Kaminada. It became a through-station just a few months later on 6 October 1935 when the line was extended to Iyo-Nagahama.

Do we hear the chirping cicadas? That is one of the most profoundly wonderful thing about the outdoor ambience in japan! 😊

it's been 3 years since the last time I traveled to Japan, everything in this video is still very strong in my memory, the peacefulness of Hakone, the busy streets of Shinjuku, the harmony of the environment, can't wait to travel to Japan again

You were so lucky that the conductor reopened the doors for you!! The Seto Inland Sea looks like paradise to me - I must go there some day!

You know you're on a Japanese train if it has a vending machine! Shame it wasn't working though. According to the Nagoya Railroad, the actual inspiration for the Spirited Away train was the Meitetsu Tokoname Line when it was flooded during Typhoon Vera in 1959. The train in the movie looks similar to the Meitetsu 3400 series train that used to operate on the line. Nagoya Railroad cleared this up after people at a shipyard near Shimonada were complaining about the tourists trespassing onto the property and how they were attracted to the shipyard's "submerged train tracks" which aren't train tracks but just tracks for transporting equipment

I've been to this train station and it's a tourist attraction for train station enthusiasts and/or Ghibli fans. I was staying in Matsuyama, so my travel time was a little less. If you're interested in out of the way train stations, here are a few: Okoba Station in Kumamoto, Tsubojiri Station of Dosan Line in Tokushima, Doai Station in Gunma (underground), Tsutsuishi Station (underground) in Niigata.
