Fun Fact: Dakotaraptor was controversial due to being a possibly Chimeric genus, with some of the bones belonging to other species, most famously, it's "wishbone" turned out to be the armor of a Turtle

The size of Dakotaraptor is quite similar to that of the Jurassic park/World velociraptor size

That species name, steini, is in reference to paleontologist Walter Stein. I was on his dig site in 2012 when I found a small piece of a lower leg bone. I showed him and after some deliberation he said he thought it was Dakotaraptor. Ever since Dakotaraptor has been my favorite dinosaur because I helped discover it. It means a lot to me.

Giant ground hawks with claws and teeth are just a bit (and by a bit I mean a f-tonne) cooler than birdish lizards.

Studies in a modern day bird known as Seriema that still possess a sickle claw shows that it may have actually been used for holding prey down while they eat instead of slicing

I feel like Dakotaraptor is very underrated. People always bring up Utahraptor when talking about big dromeosaurids but honestly Dakotaraptor (and Austroraptor) should be brought up to.

Dakotaraptors are the closest we’re gonna get to real life Jurassic Park raptors, since not only are they the right size, but they also inhabit the same regions.

Grant found one of the “Velociraptor” skeletons in the Montana Badlands, and Dakotaraptors have been found in Montana, so it’s not too far of a stretch.

If Dakotaraptor is a valid genius then that would mean this is the actual Jurassic Park velociraptor because remember Dr. Grant found the skeleton in Montana, but also remember in the novel the Raptors in the novel are Deinonychus, but they referred to it as velociraptor is in the family and not the Mongolian species

Fun fact: there's an indie animated pilot in the works about a Dakotaraptor called Talon.

I literally just started writing a Jurassic Park movie set during the lake Cretaceous. In the main characters happened to be Dakota Raptors because they’re the only Raptors who lived with T-Rex, yes, I’m aware of velociraptors did too, but they were small.

the first image on the video, the raptor has cheeks
FINALLY, we acknowledge theropods probably had cheeks, especially dromaeosaurs, since most birds have them.

“Are you scared of raptors?”
Me: Nah they’re dead
“You should be.”
*visible confusion

when you said “they ate prey before it died” it reminded me of one video I watched where two Komodo dragons were eating the organs of a deer as it was sitting there. alive too.

Pursuit predators are terrifying. They don't need to be faster than you, they'll just get you when you're all done running

Always felt JP raptors most closely resembled Dakotaraptor. Deinonychus is still a bit too small for the movie raptor, and Utah raptor a bit too big and bulky.

They should’ve just put Dakota Raptors in Jurassic Park or Jurassic World and gave them feathers because raptors look way more terrifying with feathers they look like hairless chickens without them
