Learn how to easily convert data with multiple column headers to Rows using the handy UNPIVOT function in Power Query which is available in Excel and Power BI.

This is the 2nd video of the three-part video series that demonstrates how Pivot, UnPivot, and Transpose functions in Power Query can save you a huge amount of time and effort in cleaning and reshaping your data.

Tools such as Pivot Table, Charts, Filtering, and even effective sorting in Excel need data to be structured in tabular layout. Power Query does it with ease!

Finally someone who knows what they're doing, not a single article online was telling me to do the merge. That was so important. Everything else on google was telling me to only transpose the first column and do the unpivot but that failed obviously 🤦‍♀

I've done this once and i'm reviewing this process again. This is an amazing skill that can be very powerful since a a crosstab report is a common format people use for data entry. I wish Excel would make this reverse pivot option a lot easier to do.

Excellent video and thank you.

Suppose that we don’t know how many column headers will be in the data; could be from 2-10. Is it possible to “merge other columns” using the M code directly?

Nice tutorial... thanks for sharing

I have one quick question...

What if we don’t have table ready ... for example let’s suppose we are using folder method to append multiple files. And in that process we won’t have option to uncheck header ... do you have any ideas on that ?

This is a neat trick, but how can we handle this in case more products get added, the refresh option breaks. Any workaround?
