Your votes are private but whether or not you voted is public.

This video is very misleading. Who you voted for is NEVER made public.

The fact that women are afraid that who they voted for are found out by their family is both sad and frustrating. Is this Middle East?

Exactly!!! Who you vote for is private. This is ridiculously bad information to be putting out right now! Really disappointed 😮

Only THAT you voted is public. Not WHO

People can learn if you voted but not whom you voted for

That you voted is public
Who you voted for is not

Guys be careful with putting out this false information. People are in situations where they need to vote for someone their partner doesn’t want them to and it could cause real world issues.

Your vote is PRIVATE

The Republican party thinks i have voted for them. They can't tell who I voted for.

Since the video is misleading, who you voted for is private. However, it is public information if you voted and what registered party you are.

Why does America even feel the need to make voting record or party affliation public? What need does anyone have to know whether someone voted, and much less what party they're in.

There's a form that you can personally sign that will keep all of your info private.
And it works. I legitimately needed info over the phone and was shut down

Here in Texas who I vote for is private

Is it just me or are people not understanding this right? Like this is simple blunt and clear. The history of you voting is public, but who you chose isn't. That's quite literally what they said. Not sure how you'd misread that honestly...

Should it be public whether someone has voted though? I am not convinced. And I can't see what possibly is the benefit of making it public other than that it allows people to harass you over voting. And don't get me wrong, I encourage everyone to vote. But in the end that's each person's private decision and I think it's problematic if you were to use this data to target non-voters. There is no good reason the general public needs to know whether or not you voted.

Nope. Only if you voted or not.
No more, no less.

I vote so that I can live in a world where people are not frightened to share for whom they cast their vote.

Just in case this post confuses anyone, public records show that you voted. However, *they do not show who you voted for!* Ever.

Misleading.

The **fact** that you voted is public record (can't claim you voted when you didn't, because the record will prove otherwise), but there is no way for anyone to know who you vote for unless you tell them, or show them your mail in ballot filled out.

I prefer the voting machines in NC with their completely enclosed (and even a curtain to draw closed) privacy.

I'm not a fan of PA or NM with the little cardboard dividers anyone over 5'10" can see over.

I hate that this is public record. I don’t vote but every time there is an election I get spammed with phone calls and letters begging me to vote. I hate that I was forced to register
