I'm Mexican-American and been to mexico multiple times. I have a more American sounding name but no one has ever said it wrong once corrected. The entire thing that Spanish speaking people will call you the wrong name because they cannot pronounce it rubs me off the wrong way for some reason. I would be petty and ask the teacher if she is calling Spanish teachers ignorant or disrespectful

People dont just assign you the 'spanish version' of your name. You introduce yourself, and that's what they call you. Thry might mispronounce it, but they don't just outright give you a different name.

Nope. NTA When I took Spanish in high school, we were told we could CHOOSE a Spanish name for ourselves to be used in the class. It didn't even have to be the Spanish version of our own names. I think the idea was to for it to be a fun way to introduce us to the language. I remember one student chose the name of a Spanish explorer instead of a name from the list in our Spanish book.

As a Spanish speaking girl, let me tell you that we call people the name they introduce themselves.

I have a friend called Jennifer, I pronunced it Jennifer.

NTA, your daughter needed to see you advocate for her and that you have her back. That builds trust. My mom spoke to a teacher who refused to pronounce my name correctly. My full name is Hebrew. In mid school and in high school my mom came to speak to the teachers. My mom always had my back. TIL this day! And now I’m 35.

I'm the same about my name. The new professor lied, I went to South America and they called me and everyone else by our birth name.

As an hispanic person, it’s really dumb that people think we’re gonna call their names by the ‘spanish version’ Even if some people might have a problem with the pronunciations, they’re not gonna call you Alejandra instead of Alexandra

I’m Brazilian and I was in the US for an exchange program during my senior year in high school.
NO ONE called me by the “English version” of my name, even during graduation they called my full name the correct way, and even Brazilians struggle with my last name.
This teacher must be very stupid to think anyone from another country will call you by the “version” of that country.

Nope, I don't think you are. If a person prefers to be called a certain name and you're corrected don't use the excuse of "if they were to x place they would call her *wrong name*" because I've meet tons of people from other countries who don't call someone by a different name than they introduce themselves as.

I'm Colombian (Hispanic country) and I have never heard anyone take Alejandra as a version of Alexandra. Never. My mom is called Alexandra and NO ONE calls her Alejandra. People just usually call her Alex or Alexa.

I am a native spanish speaker and we say Alexandra... because it is written with X, Alejandra is written with J, different letters and sounds.

NTA. A lot of teachers that ignore small, reasonable boundaries are bullies and won't stop on their own. They start with small 💩 like this then work up to seriously harmful stuff. I've delt with a few like this cuz I had the unfortunate habit of crying whenever I felt "big emotions". Self advocacy is so important in dealing with this type.
