For the museum story: The god is Taweret, she is a fertility goddess/ safe child birth goddess. It is likely the statue came from a home alter since her and Bes were two of the most home-worshiped gods. So I think the guy will be clear on curses but I would warn him to be careful about birth control because he has been holding onto that thing for decades and is probably super fertile now.
