How to get rid of foreign body sensation in one eye? - Dr. Elankumaran P

There are various reason why there is a foreign body sensation under the eyelid. The commonest of course is foreign body in the eye. This needs to be removed. However in many cases, there may not be a foreign body and the person may have a sensation as if something is there. This happens more common in dry eye disease syndrome, computer vision syndrome, allergic conjunctivitis, meibominitis, and blepheritis. It can also happen for a simple reason that the person is not blinking for a very long time. There various ways how it can be removed is, number one, increase the blink rate. When we say increase the blink rate, it should atleast be 15 to 20 times, in a minute. Number two, you can give cold compress, you can take ice cube or cold water and put it into a towel and apply it on the closed lids. Third, if there is meibominitis or blepheritis, we can give hot fermentation instead of cold, we use warm water compress and we use shampoos, usually baby shampoo scrubs an wash it out. This might also reduce the foreign body sensation. If none of this works, the best is to consult an ophthalmologist who will remove the foreign body if it is there or he might prescribe some medicines to correct the dry eyes or the allergic conjunctivitis.

I was laying beside an electric fan when I felt like something got into my eye. I immediately ran to the mirror to check it, but nothing was there, nothing came out. It's been about 30 minutes now but it still feels irritated whenever I blink.

Dry eye disease? Cold compress, hot compress and blink 20 times a minute. Thank you, Dr. This gives me three things that I can try.😢

I feel like I have a grain of sand stuck on the top eyelid of my right eye,
Extremely annoying since I am a darts player and can't play properly now

Try a fairly warm cloth over your eye (closed) hold it there for a bit it worked for me! Just keep doing that everytime it's bugging you😁

Bro I don't understand why it's so irritating. I've taken so many pictures of my eye and found nothing but the pain still feels so real. I'm gonna see if it goes away after I go to sleep. If not I might go to the doctors to get it checked it just in case.

Drs are clueless when it comes to dry eyes... so many people suffering.

Sometimes can be tiny cysts on eyelids, usually the top ones. Pull up eyelids to check and if there is a tiny cyst you can run a cotton bud or your nail to remove it

It was just on my left eye all afternoon and it finally stopped after I decided to just play on my phone and stop focusing on it. It still burns a bit and around my eye hurts because I kept rubbing it, but I’m so, so glad it’s gone. I almost cried, and I have a pretty high pain tolerance.

I did everything before, including ophthalmologist and ER. NOTHING. two small pieces of plastic came out months later on their own. Very painful. Now I have another sensation in the other eye.

My connor of my eyes fill like that there are bug in my eyes and I have tried to flush them out with plane old warm water and still feel like I have something in them. So I go to the doctor

I'm dealing with the same symptoms as alot of the commenters before me posting this said they were dealing with, left eye all of a sudden feels like I have got an eyelash stuck or a price of debris or sand stuck in my upper eye lid. It comes on for an hour or even for up to several hours at a time and comes ad goes. I try to look for something In it and don't see anything forgiven in my eye I've tried flushing it with clear eyes and visine and even water which I don't recommend and it doesn't get any relief. And then all of a sudden it stops and it goes away but then it returns the next afternoon or the next night or day. It's driving me crazy I got to figure out what this is I can't stop blinking and messing with it..
