This is where it’s at! I hope these videos are doing well enough for you to keep doing them. Absolutely nothing on the Internet like this.👍

Unifying the style truly transforms that home. You have an eye for identifying those elements on a home that are not the correct style and explaining how it can be corrected

Loved this and the presentation. Please, more of this. If I had the blue prints to that house - I would be 3d modelling it RIGHT NOW.

Excellent video. The result does evoke a Victorian villa here in the UK except for that thing on the side; never seen that on a Victorian house; side summer room or conservatory, quite often but not an open structure like they have. A few questions came to my mind.

Was this house built in the Victorian era and the owners want to take it back to an original look - or do they just want a Victorian look on a newer house?

What about the interior. In particular, the proportions of the rooms. Are they Victorian? Will the exterior look lead to the interior aesthetic or will it clash?

Amazing! Would love to see you put out a book with "fixes" like this, Brent!

That was great! Nice sketching too! Often in trying to make a modern house Victorian, the volumes of the rooms aren't the same as they used to be. People expect wider spaces, so it's harder to keep it from looking boxy. I've seen some new houses like the example house, here in the Bay area where we have so many Victorians, that people want to emulate. They often look just like a poor attempt, and they don't fit either age in style. Thanks for pointing out how we might avoid those mistakes.

Your version is transformative!

It would be interesting to understand what you think the additional expense associated with these details would be. Some details might not have any extra expense or even save on expense (less complicated porte cochere roof line and no stone work) while others would clearly cost more. Let's say it's +$100k... where could money be saved by builder or homeowner to offset? I think that lens could be helpful so that those looking to build with these details can be educated on the best way to do it within certain budget constraints. Maybe it's the square footage, maybe it must be certain interior details. Heck, maybe there just isn't a way at all.

Anyhow, just a thought. Even if you don't do that, they are still some of my favorite videos!

I just watched it three times to let it all soak in. Thank you Mr. Hull for your excellent work!

It amazes me that such an ugly house is only a few details away from one that looks much more composed and beautiful. Excellent work.

Wow. It's incredible how much more appropriate this looks for the time period.

Outside of a colonial, Victorian is my favorite style of house! Thanks Brent!

I can't help but empathize with those people. They wanted to elevate their house to something out of the ordinary and they didn't go full on McMansion Hell. But yeah, that porte -cochere was off the rails. I have to agree with your other points as well.

My apologies to anyone that might own this house (as it is) in advance - because it is so ugly to me. That's why I'm loving these videos. I see that house and I hate it - but I only know partially why. Everything Brent drew is so spot on but I just saw - "it's not right" originally. I wish people wouldn't build these they're offensive to the eye. Really. If this was the house you already owned or all that you could buy, I like that nearly all the changes Brent would make could be done in phases to be more budget friendly if necessary. Thank you Brent!

why is this so satisfying?! this is my dream house now, a REAL neo-victorian, down to the over hang details, the elimination of stucko, and the neat railings

I love this series! My husband and I often do this exact thing to houses we see where it's a mix of style or people have tried to "update" their house and made it awful. We are currently in a 1970's ranch fixer upper. Any chance you could do an episode on "fixing" a ranch? It's not exactly a traditional style but there are so many of them around the US and I'm sure many people wanting to update these houses.

Amazing transformation. Your version looks much more authentic and the proportions look totally different, even though the basic dimensions are the same. I love when you lift the tracing paper to really contrast the before and after.

The comment section was not buying last week's barndoninium to Mediterranean update too much but I think this week you probably won them over. Certainly I liked this one a lot.

LMAO the fantastic 4 joke was hilarious.

I’m an architectural drafter currently, and will be attending school at Mississippi State’s college of architecture… I plan to eventually buy a little land, and building a Victorian home for myself, using actual plans from the Victorian period, not a large home, maybe 1500sqft, but of course tweaking them a bit to abide by modern code and comforts. But overall it will be a Victorian home rebuilt today almost exactly how it was wherever it was originally built
