As per the “INF104” which is DVLA’s specification on number plates.

- the space between characters must be 11mm
- the space between the age identifier and the random letters must be 33mm

So with an ageless plate, as per governing specifications. PL4TE would not have to be spaced out PL 4TE as the “PL” is not the age identifier.
