These are my top 10 tips that I have learnt during my first year of playing Final Fantasy 14! I found each of these tips to be very useful and wish that I had known about them when I started the game.

Welcome back to Tiny Blue Games! My name is Csaw or Chris, and today we are talking about some of the most important lessons I learnt during my first year of playing FFXIV. Some of these tips are meant more for new players, but some of them can be just as important to existing players as well. You can skip ahead to specific tips using the timestamps below:

0:00 Intro
0:58 Expanded Inventory View
1:32 Free Fantasia Potion
2:14 The Arcanist Class
3:27 Lalafells Are Potatoes?
3:59 Inronworks Gear
4:22 Aethernet Travel
5:16 Chocobo Companion
6:08 No Falling Damage
7:00 Eat Food!
7:46 Hunting Logs
9:04 Conclusion

As a relatively new FFXIV player, I have been enjoying giving my first impressions for the many different pieces of content this game has to offer. If you are interested in exploring the game yourself I suggest you check out the Final Fantasy 14 free trial. This trial lets you play the base game all the way to level 35, with no time restrictions. It was ultimately the free trial that convinced me to dive into the full game and the new Shadowbringers expansion!

One addition to the Fantasia category is that you can unlock a stylist/aesthetician in the city of Limsa Lominsa and you can then summon him in any private inn room. The Aesthetician will allow you to change surface level aspects of your character appearance for only 2000 gil. So if you want a new hair style or hair colour, for example, you don't need to buy a Fantasia for it.
Another tip I like to give is to make use of the Palace of the Dead. It's a semi-randomized dungeon that you can enter solo that can give you some decent XP. What I like to recommend it for, however, is to use it to learn a class (or refresh yourself on an old one if you haven't played it in a while). Because of it's super fast but isolated progression system you can essentially restart a class from level 1 to reprogress. You can even do this for jobs like Dark Knight or Samurai that technically can't even be played at level 1. I find it to be a much more fun way to learn a class than just staring at skill tool tips while beating on a training dummy.

So you actually skipped the single most important game mechanic that makes leveling so much faster and would have sped up your time exponentially. Around level 15 in upper decks there is a quest to unlock the challenge log. The challenge log grants exp/gil for completing weekly challenges. These tasks are normally things you already do. Stuff like complete 5 dungeons, run 3 guildhests, complete 5 different levequests. Normally just doing them as is will grand you (depending on level) hundreds of thousands to millions of extra exp per week. You can even abuse this log as there is no set rules. For the 5 dungeon one you can equip a level 50 class and undersize solo the first dungeon in like 4 mins a piece and in under 20 mins you can get a good chunk of a level. As for the levequests level is not a factor so even at say level 62 you can pop over to costa del sol, run 4 different ones (not the escort one) and then pop on over to camp bluefrog and run circling the cirulium and bam another chunk of a level if not half of one. There is even ones for completing fates so you get the fate xp plus the bonus xp. After you have unlocked you chocobo to fight with you there is even one to get IT extra xp just for fighting things with you. A character leveling a class at say level 70 who doesn't utilize the challenge log is missing out on roughly 8-10mil free exp per week.

The tips I wish I had gotten when I started out, besides the obvious is: Do the "Hall of novice" stuff at level 15 when it unlocks.

Why? You get gear for your current level and more remarkably.. A ring that gives experience boost when worn and doing content under the level under 30 and it is wearable from level 1 afterwards. For every new job you decide to level. (And the stats are okay way up to lvl 40)

Re: Battle Chocobo leveling.
Yes you CAN put points into dps and tank stuff for your chocobo, but please note: Healer chocobo is by far the best, it's not my opinion, it's just really strong as a fact. Dps choco does marginally more damage, and tank chocobo can't even hold agro well, but heals from your chocobo are exceptionally good and it still does significant damage. The devs just didn't balance it well honestly, a rare thing for the ffxiv team, but they can't always be so perfect. XD
Choco regen has saved my life on more occasions then i can count. <3

11) Challenge Log, its a nice weekly boost that covers all aspects of the game as you unlock them to get bonus experience, gil, and MGP depending on the challenges you complete. its ever helpful when it comes to crafting and gathering as well to supplement your leveling on combat jobs.

Also Hunting log completion grants an achievement that you can go to an NPC in gridania that gives a nifty ring, which can help if you need a secondary Lv 50 ring

HUD. When I first played FFXIV I literally couldn't see a single thing because the screen was so littered with the hotbars, windows, quest, etc. After a few weeks, I decided to mess around with my HUD and boy was I glad. I was actually able to see my character and the world of FFXIV.

Wonderful! One comment on food: The cheapest food is often from any food vendor. Raisins. They give the same exp as better food and even sprouts can afford.

One tip i actually learned fairly recently despite the fact ive been playing this for almost a decade now, when you are resurrected by a healer, you have a 5 seconds of complete immunity AS LONG AS you dont move, or use any action. So you rez in a AoE? DO NOT MOVE. That will give your healers a small period of grace to get your health back up without you taking any damage.

As someone who is considering trying the game out, this is super helpful. Not just for the tips themselves, but they let me look into how the game itself works as an outsider. Thanks for taking the time to make this.

Hey, been watching you since you started up 14. Your doing a really good job and it's really cool to see someone go through the game for the first time. Great work on the series my guy and I look forward to seeing more. PS: Have you considered doing the coils of Bahamut? Kinda hard to find a group to do it synched but it has massive story and lore dumps

The thing I would liked to know when I started playing is that the MSQ is everything, I started to level like any other mmo and when I reached 35 I realized that I wasnt getting new abilities because I wasn't doing my class quest, but class quests are cockblocked by main scenario quests, then realized that everything is locked behind MSQ, including access to expansion zones.

Also you were left out of Desperius video lol. I was gonna comment about this newcomer to XIV scene but I saw he apologized for the omission

Something to note about fall damage is that if you're in combat when you jump, it will kill you. It will only drop to 1 hp if you're out of combat

Idk if anyone mentioned this (its add to tips u mentioned or more tips)
Tip 5: you can use poetic tomestones to upgrade the gear you bought to increase item level (iL) and for level 60 and level 70 tomestone gear have more than one set of gear and it's better go for higher iL set (shire is level 60 and scaevan for level 70) as both shire and scaevan can give u small boost for gear in expansion (2-3 levels if not 4 levels)
Tip 10: hunting log is only available for classes in ARR and u can do the grand company and get seals currency for them to rank up (some ranks need the grand company hunting logs)
Extra tip/s: do the novice hall training as it gives you gear and ring that boosts exp gain for any combat class that's lower than level 30 also ask for novice network chat (it's basically chat between veterans and new player/players that took break) sadly due to idea I'd alt characters ffxiv only automatically add returners into novice network while new player need to ask mentors to invite them into chat (mentors r vets with crown icon next to their head) and anyone can be mentor if they finish requirements for mentor (it includes around 70-90% of the field they join in (there r two types of mentor pve/trade) trade mentor is more into crafting/gathering

Only thing I would warn people about is that while SMN and SCH level together, I would not recommend starting with them if this is your first MMO. SMN has a very long rotation at 80 and both classes require a fair amount of micromanagement. Not to discourage people from playing them (very happy SMN main) but I do think it's important to know that they are not as beginner friendly as some other jobs.

Most major cities have an independent Culinarian, and you can buy eggs or raisins from them for 5 gil each. Cheapest exp only food boost you can get. 9/10. :D Good tips for new players! Keep up the good work!

Tip number 11, teleport to Limsa lominsa and take the ferry from next to the arcanist guild to get to the Waking Sands in Vesper Bay instead of legging it from Horizon every time

Has it been a year already? Time sure flies! Allow me to add a few tips of my own:
1: Don't hesitate to spend a couple of hours (yes, hours) to create your character. You'll do everything in the game with it and see yourself quite a bit. Make sure you love your character :)
2: You can become any class and any jobs in the game! Classes include crafters and gatherers, jobs are all combat related 'classes'.
3: Crafters and gatherers can also be leveled to the current maximum level and each have their own gear pieces with relevant, non-combat stats!
4: When first starting out, it's best to skip the side quests. Just focus on the main scenario quest and the various side activities like the Hunting Log and Leve quests. You can always do the side-quests with another job!
5: The journey is far more important than the destination. Don't treat this game like it's world of warcraft where anything non end-game is pretty much obsolete.
6: Teleporting can get expensive fast! Try to learn the various ferry routes, airship routes and make clever use of your Return (a free 'home teleport') as well as the extra Free aetheryte Destination you get for using 2-step verification on your account.
7: Use 2-step verification for your account.
8: Probably a few I forgot, just don't forget to have fun!
