Beginning in 1986, the American Gold Eagle came onto the scene and established itself as one of the leading gold bullion options. However, there are a lot of different strike types (business, proof, reverse proof, burnished) and some interesting history behind the coins. Regarding 2:00, the American Gold Eagle coin was redesigned in 2021 as the Type 2 and its obverse now has only 46 stars representing the States of the Union which means that New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii have been omitted. On the other hand, the obverse of American Gold Eagle coins from 1986 until 2021 known as the Type 1, there are 50 stars that represent all of the States of the Union which is the same as the 50 stars on the Flag of the United States of America.
