The Curse of the Pharaohs

We have all heard horror stories of Egyptian tombs armed with curses that afflict any and all who would dare disturb the pharaoh's eternal slumber. Thieves and archaeologists alike are said to be subject to bad luck, illness of body and mind, and untimely death. While Hollywood horror and news stories of the discovery of King Tut's tomb have certainly amplified the legend, the tales of the Curse of the Pharaohs go back nearly 5,000 years!

MYTHOLOGY HAS BEEN TOLD AND RETOLD IN MANY FORMS ACROSS TIME, STORIES AND ACCOUNTS MAY VARY.

Your narration style worked perfectly for this video, especially when reading out the ancient warnings for those who dared disturb the pharaoh's rest. 😁 This was a great video, especially for someone like me with a fascination for ancient Egypt. Thank you, as always!

I looked at the title and thought of this: "Return the slab. Or suffer my curse."

Great video.

I absolutely love your videos, and I completely respect your choice of what your videos are about. I once believed in curses and superstitions from movies and cartoons. But now, looking closely I saw that King Tut’s Tumb was actually an ancient bacteria-turned-virus has more damaging effects on those people. That and also the line between dumb luck, coincidence, and bad timing that happened to them after unearthing Tut’s Tumb.

Again, I love your vids and will look forward to another of your newest videos 😉✌️

No matter what religion, people should really learn to respect the dead, and never disturb their resting places.

The Curse of the Pharos Tombs are mostly explained by hazards like sneaks that were shrouded by the darkness within the tomb. The most logical explanation was the release of the gases that build up within a dead body knows as “putrefaction” (aka The Plutonic Either) which are toxic when inhaled. Those gases would circle inside a sealed tomb which offered no ventilation.

Wish there was a good survival horror RE but with Egyptian horror. Only one I can think of is Curse: The Eye of ISIS from the 2000s.

I think the FPS, Deadfall Adventures had mummies in it too.

Good video.

The idea of "It doesn't matter who or why a person has entered the tomb, they will be punished." is incorrect, as evidence by the transcribed curses from the old kingdom tombs. Both mentioned curses stipulate (more or less) If a person enters of ill-intent or are "un-pure" then they will be cursed. This leaves the idea of allowing for scholarly or reverence intent persons to enter without the threat of harm. Likely then, many, if not all, Egyptian tomb curses will have this type of stipulation. So now if we look at the curse of King Tut, perhaps we should take a closer look at who did and who did not suffer horrible consequences. A financier who's obviously looking to exploit the find for personal gain, he's wacked. A man who receives one of the pharaoh's hands as a souvenir, home and health is taken. But the man who found the tomb, a scholarly archeologist whose motives are to discover, learn and share these things with the world, he lives a full life.
Look at the entire picture and it may be that the curses are more real than believed or understood. An understanding that science is unable to understand; just because science cannot prove something exists does not mean science has proved that it does not exist.

Due to the Pharoah custom of keeping "the bloodline pure", King Tut is the equivalent of the last Hapsburg king, Both were terribly deformed due to their family practicing inbreeding. King Tut had Gynecomastia, a really bad club foot, and he was obese for the era due to having a really bad metabolism. This could have been what killed him as he suffered a lot, as he had to sit down in his chariot, which was unheard of.

Hm, odd that Arnold Vosloo wasn't mentioned for the Stephen Sommers film when his predecessors were.

It's not just a 'Western idea'. Curses linked with disturbing tombs are part of genuine Egyptian folklore. Yet curse or no curse, people have been raiding them for gold since the time of pharaohs. Age and technology change, but human lust for gold is eternal.
