BMW Vs Toyota Reliability - Are BMW's as Reliable As A Toyota?

Is it possible that a BMW is going to be as reliable as a Toyota? My subscribers and viewers seem to think that Toyota is the ultimate in reliability and that BMW simply can't keep up in terms of reliability. Well, my video here is going to explain exactly why you can pit BMW vs Toyota any day, especially in terms of reliability.

In case you're unaware, the newest Toyota Supra is going to contain the same B52 engine that's in many BMW cars these days. That engine could have some reliability concerns in it, don't get me wrong, but overall there are some reasons that this B52 has to be reliable. One of those reasons being that Toyota has to be very careful with their reputation.

I thought this video was supposed to be a comparison of reliability between BMW and Toyota. You spent 90% of the video talking about BMW and showing BMW vehicles. Where was the true comparison? You spent so much time trying to convince that viewers that BMWs reliability is good. That only leads me to believe That Toyota is a more reliable vehicle. I just want to mention there is no bias n my part. I own a Lexus and. BMW. Lexus IS a winner. .

You don’t buy a BMW. You lease it and give it back before the headaches begin.

I love BMW but they are not as reliable as Toyota and probably won't ever be

The answer is no, BMW is not and will never be as reliable as Toyota. The Japanese have much more refined manufacturing methods that Europeans and Americans don’t have. Japanese don’t cut costs, and manufacturer most of the parts that are installed on the car.

Toyota choosing to put the b58 in the supra, says a lot about the engine. Toyota wouldnt dare do anything to hurt their reputation of reliability

Would this still be fuel efficient ? That’s why I was considering a diesal BMW but I’m guessing that won’t have a B58 engine?

While BMW may not be as reliable as Toyota, they really aren’t as bad as people make them out to be.

Lets be honest there are some reliability issues that BMW should not have.  However, the truth is when you have an expensive car you have to be proactive on the maintenance.  Most people who drive BMWs cannot really afford them.  The cost of insurance, monthly car note, using premium gas, etc is too much for most BMW drivers.  So when its time to get that oil change, new tires, spark plugs, etc these drivers procrastinate until something really goes wrong then they want to complain about reliability.  Besides the gasket issue and unreliable 8 cylinder engines ask any BMW driver than performs the regular scheduled maintenance.  So the next time someone is bitching about reliability ask them to show receipts of their maintenance.

Well I have a 2018 BMW 430i Gran Coupe. Purchased with 7 miles in May of 2018. Since then, it's been in the shop 101 days. Repairs include 2 MAF sensors, New Camshaft, Eccentric Shaft Sensor, Engine Wiring Harness and I'm victim of the Valve Seals. Currently in the lemon law repurchase process.

BMW engines are not the problem. It is the crappy rubber they use in the seals after 1998 that are the problem. It doesn't matter where it is on the car, windshields, headlights, valve stems, gaskets, vacuum pumps, The engines themselves are bulletproof, its that crappy rubber they use now that forces the cars into the junkyard! Who wants to pay $7, 000.00 to do a valve stem seal job on a 10 year old car? What other auto maker has the rubber seals on the windows deteriorate after 8 or 9 years? I just replaced a vacuum pump on a newer BMW and the rubber cracked like a tree twig! <snap>

The non car guys can enjoy their Toyotas, but the ones who are passionate about the driving experience drive a BMW.

Question I have is what engineering input did Toyota have on the Supra/Z4 ? I hope the new engine is reliable. BMW had a lot of time to get it right. I remember soon after the N54 was launched the problems began. Love this video and the discussion. Keep up the good work

I can tell you're one of those guys that believes in marketing hype instead of actual research. BMW engines are crap because of the excessive plastics they use in ther cooling systems---plastic water pumps, radiators, cooling system passages...they go bad in 5 years or less, and cost a fortune to fix. But you ask; would Toyota risk their reputation? YES, yes they would. Let's not forget that the 86 is nothing more than a Subaru BRZ, a car that is known for blowing head gaskets. Please, do your research.

BMW is built for rich people, there is no reliability or actually unknown, plastics parts everywhere which makes the car lighter and of course lots of power and fun to drive . if you are well off, then for sure lease for 3 years and return it back, but if you want to keep it long term, then, add extended warranty and enjoy.

The difference between BMW and Lexus/Toyota is based on their car manufacturing philosophy. BMW philosophy is one performance and power which quickly wears down their cars pretty fast. Lexus philosophy is one of building reliable and economical cars

This just focused on the b58 engine, this just says that all the next BMW cars which are going to be using this engine will most probably be reliable. This doesn't say anything about the traditional BMW engines

you are only looking at the engine, you did nt mention the the other stuff that break down, sensors, electrical, and high cost maintenance.
