Fake Facebook Account Using My Pics
How do I report fraud to Facebook?
Anyone know how to reach real people at Facebook?

I ran across a photo on Facebook that was familiar....it was a picture of ME. But it was not my account. A few clicks and I discovered an account that was started a week earlier, that had several of my photographs as the profile pictures.

Oh Oh. Someone is pulling a scam and using my face. Damn it... I hate stuff like that.

I reported it to FB and got an AI response that said the investigated the account and they were NOT in violation of the Facebook Community Standards. Well, that is not true (yes, AI is wrong a lot). One of their key community standards is authenticity. Thus, the account is in violation, as it is NOT ME.

Next I had friends report the situation. And again, I got messages saying they investigated and there is no violation of the account being reported.

While reading online about how to reach a human or send an email with a full explanation I discovered that if you complain too much, Facebook will suspend your account rather than the account of the bad guys.

An account using my photos, but not my name, is not one of their complaint buttons....but is should be because apparently this is very, very common. Scammers use real pics to make someone think they are talking to a real person and then get their money or personal information. That sucks and I do not want my photos being part of this.

Finally I went to LinkedIn to see if anyone I know works for FB. I did have someone, although I had not talked to them in about a decade. But I emailed anyway. He was great, asked for the info, and is forwarding it to real humans in the company. So may this will just go away.

But I post my rant video as maybe someone out there is having the same issue and has suggestions for me .... or a future person who finds this video on a search. Share how to get FB to take care of these fake accounts below.

I am going to add this story into my keynote about networking and creating "Uncommon Connections". We now live in a world of broadcast one way relationships and now fake accounts with photos of real people. Getting back to face to face communication and relationship building seems more important than ever!

Don’t count on getting help from FB . They blocked me for 2-3 weeks because of something I said. I can’t find out what it was. I filed an appeal . They have let me back in but they are deleting any comments I make. I have seen posts people have made which are much worse than anything I have ever said .
