Most people seem VERY young in the comments so I’ll explain. For cars with traditional keys like this, you didn’t have to press the brake pedal before. This didn’t really start until Push Button Start cars came along.

Nah that’s how I learnt to start cars even to this day driving a hybrid even if it doesn’t have the system I’ll still put the foot the brake

I’ve done this naturally anyways. Same with always putting on my parking brake.

The foot on the brake is just nice just in case.

And the parking brake takes strain of the transmission instead of rolling onto it

I had a 2017 Jetta with 6-speed auto transmission. That’s how you start it. Very normal for VW Jetta.
