Hi Mihail - Thanks for taking the time to test and review the HERO10 Black!

Thanks to customer feedback, we’ve learned many HERO10 users want the ability to record longer video clips in static situations without motion or airflow to cool the camera. Many have also had questions about how to get the longest possible recording times while maximizing battery life.

We’re excited to share that we’re releasing a HER010 firmware update to deliver on these requests by end of October.

This update will introduce three new “Video Performance Modes” to help maximize HERO10’s performance depending on your use case:

1. Maximum Video Performance – Maximum video resolution and frame rates for the very best image quality and ultra slow motion.
2. Extended Battery – Optimal video resolutions and frame rates for maximizing recording times and extending battery life.
3. Tripod / Stationary Video – Optimized for recording long video clips at the highest resolutions and frame rates when the camera is stationary without motion or airflow to cool the camera. GPS and HyperSmooth video stabilization are turned OFF in this mode.

The following is what users can expect to achieve, on average, in Tripod / Stationary Video mode recording a single continuous clip at a temperature of 77F / 25C in static situations without movement or airflow to cool the camera:
5.3K60 – 47% more runtime than previous for an average of 29 minute-long clips
5.3K30 – 11% more runtime than previous for an average of 44 minute-long clips
4K120 – 52% more runtime than previous for an average of 26 minute-long clips
4K60 – 154% more runtime than previous for an average of 63 minute-long clips
4K30 – 35% more runtime than previous for an average of 50 minute-long clips
A future firmware update will enable even longer clip lengths in 5.3K30 and 4K30. And if important for your use case, 2.7K and 1080p will enable significantly longer single clip recording times in either Extended Battery or Maximum Video Performance modes.

We’re also excited to share that in late November we’re releasing a new battery, named Enduro, for HERO10 and HERO9 cameras. Enduro will be available as a $24.99 spare battery upgrade and features revolutionary technology that dramatically improves your GoPro’s performance in cold temperatures (snow sports, for example) while also significantly extending recording times in moderate temperatures.

At a battery temperature of 14F / -10C (note: this is the battery’s temperature, it can be even colder outside), with HERO10 Black the Enduro battery enables, on average, 56 minutes of 5.3K60 video, 50 minutes of 4K120 video, 76 minutes of 4K60 video and 115 minutes of 1080p30 video recording.

Enduro also significantly increases video recording time in moderate temperatures. For example, with HERO10 Black during typical outdoor activities at a temperature of 77F / 25C, the Enduro battery enables, on average, 60 minutes of 5.3K60 video (a 28% improvement over the standard battery), 51 minutes of 4K120 video (a 40% improvement over the standard battery), 71 minutes of 4K60 video (a 13% improvement over the standard battery) and 120 minutes of 1080p30 video recording.

Very thorough and fair review. You caught a lot of details that most other reviews either missed or skipped over.
The changing battery level with modes is deliberate. Different modes place different loads on the battery, and capacity changes with load. A lot of people seem to like this feature, but I can understand how if can seem confusing because it's not something that most battery-powered device companies do.

Great review as Always. I agree with you 100% on the Overheating. Who is gonna actually be shooting for 30 minutes continuously? A few people maybe. To me its a little ridiculous to test for Overheating like this when I personally shoot maybe 10 second clips every couple minutes. Camera has lots of time in between clips. For me Overheating is Absolutely Not a problem!

Great review, honest and candid; I'm with the 7 but fed up with small things like the frame and how difficult it is to open. of course the front screen, quality of image, slowmo etc...

I upgraded from the Hero 8 ( I still keep) because it is much faster at writing still photos to the memory card, especially in burst mode, and the 5.3K 19 megapixel screen grabs. But battery life is really disappointing. I use it in the ocean with the dive case, so swapping the battery is not an option. If I turn off the front screen, the presets are not accessible while in the dive case. I hope GoPro allows using presets when the front screen is off and the touchscreen is nit accessible. Natural color is a big improvement, I wish it would be available as abs option to older Hero cameras

Finally! A good step-up from the older ones.
GoPro got compacent and began lagging behind most chinesee alternatives with The Hero 5-8.
Hero 9 had some neat features, but it was horrendos buggy mess at launch and I had some terrible experience with their custommer service.

Yes, the “update process was better for the iPhone user!” I’d guess it only took 3-5 minutes for my GoPro Hero 10 Black to update using my iPhone 12 Pro.

guys the over heating that you see in most tests are actually done wrong cause in them the wings or the mount built in a folded in which distrupts airflow and normally the only time when you would record for more than 10 mins is whne u are riding a bike or jetsking which will have a lot or airflow at them or cold water spalshing on them. a real world test was conducted which gave 4k 120 44 mins of use till it over heated

8:30 first time i see so less grain in hero 10, more often is a hell bigger, compare to osmo action which has only grain, when hero has big blocks

Well it looks like a great camera but as for now I think no need yet for me to gett the go pro 10 as I use the most time the go pro 8 but I find myself more using my oppo find x3 pro as my main camera more. I think I will just wait also on the release of the new dji osmo action and then figure out i realy need it or stick to what I have... With the firefly 8se and the Fimi Palm as back up I think I am still ok for now... Still thinking what will you come up with if you compare the oppo find x3 pro to a action camera from dji or go pro.. Maybe you can make a video on that if you can that would be great...
