'an altruism' done by EA charities is still many times more than doing nothing, or being an online activist, or doing some local organizing. that's not to say that those are bad, or shouldn't be done, but still, it simply is the case that EA probably did help far more people than those who criticize them. i recommend discussing your criticisms with actual EA people on the relevant fori, you'll find that more often than not, the people there are very open to discussion and criticism. saying it's bs is not really an argument that's worth paying much attention to, it's more like smashing the table, or just giving the incredulous stare. also, just a thought experiment: take away the whole movement, what do you have? less high-earning people in who funnel a significant amount of their income to charities that help people, and the same status-quo.

also, what's up with these claims like 'they just don't understand' lmao, please! are you an understander, do you understand? well, what do you mean by understanding? do you mean capitalism bad? how are your normative beliefs -- if any -- better or more optimal by any criterion than others? because it feels that way to you? im not an EA, but it seems to me that your critiques lack substance / any novel perspectives which haven't already been discussed to hell & back.
