I felt terrified when that reporter asked that question. If you know it's illegal in that country to be gay why would you ask that, it's like you want someone to intentionally get hurt or killed for loving somebody else.

This comes down to middle-class naivety. The worst horror they have experienced is when they said a rude word at the dinner table in front of their grandmother. They have no real concept of genuine strife. He asked this question trying to be trendy but doesn't understand he could literally be responsible for somebody dying.
