Artificial Retina Implants: Are We There? - AN IITACB Webinar

Vision disorders such as retinitis pigmentosa RP and age-related macular degeneration AMD affect the functioning of the retina. There are different approaches in different laboratories to enable and restore partial vision affected by this disorder and even augment vision parameters. Some of these approaches include gene therapy, optogenetics, stem cell therapy, photoreceptor-mimicking molecules/materials, and integrated prosthetic implants.

In this webinar, Professor K. S. Narayan, Sir J. C. Bose National Fellow, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore discusses the current status of some of these approaches, ongoing efforts in his laboratory and other novel aspects of retina and vision.
