This was a really helpful video! But I agree with another commenter, the narrator's pregnancy comments were really out of left field, especially considering the practitioner didn't mention pregnancy at all. The narrator makes it sound like reducing heavy drinking in women is only important because it will reduce risk for future pregnancies, not because it's simply a healthy thing for the woman in question

I'm role playing the doctor in this video and the conversation was not scripted, we improvised the entire time.

The Saskatchewan institute has some great videos on FASD, and these videos are connected to that topic. If doctors are able to evoke change talk than people are more likely to take steps to change. This is about preventing young women from excessive alcohol use to help prevent an even more serious issue like FASD in the future. If young women drink less in general or at least less often the chances of them drinking while unknowingly/knowingly being pregnant decreases. That's what I took from this video and Motivational Interviewing.

This is the helpful demonstration of motivation interviewing that I was looking for, but the pregnancy comments by the narrator are just bizarre. The patient being interviewed mentioned absolutely nothing about planning to become pregnant so why is it brought up out of nowhere in the beginning and end of the video?

I believe that in MI we don't educate, we believe that the patient has the tools and knowledge to get better.

Um I don't think shes struggling with alcohol addiction she literally has 7 drinks when she "goes hard"
