The laughter is a defense mechanism and/or a deflection method. When posed with a question she wants to close or NOT continue with drawn out conversation of subject matter she starts with laughter. The BEST way to combat this is to remain poised, do not participate in laughter, just set there quit, and when she stops laughing, restate the question or repeat her reply before laughing started and ask her, is that her only and official reply to question. I feel she has made an entire career out of deflecting difficult questions with this behavior.

I have a friend who does this - "unwarranted belly laughter" is what I call it. Clearly a defense mechanism. I tell him it's almost like he's covering his ears and saying "la la la la".
