ESP-Eye: First Look [ESP32 Face Recognition]

Показать описание
A first look on the ESP-Eye dev kit from Espressif. It's a tiny board with an on-board camera and a microphone. It's enabled by a phrase and detects faces. It is even able to distinguish different faces. Seems to be an awesome platform for future projects.

Nice T-shirt😀👍
Interesting review, looking forward we hear about your own project👍😀

Of course it's laggy, this is a microcontroller. An ARM based SBC with its tiny GPU is already miles ahead and can be woken up by the microcontroller so it doesn't always consume power. But it's amazing that it even runs at 2 frames a second.

TTGO also just put out a board with ESP32 + camera + PIR + BME280 for $20. I ordered one and I'm thinking of combining it with a GridEYE thermal camera to make the ultimate sensor fusion-based room occupancy detector.

Interesting. Sounds like it will definitely make some good projects.

I assume it stores you face details in flash for subsequent boots? Do you know how many faces it can store?

I am much more interested in the offline voice capabilities. Would like to look into this further. Thank you for making videos. Seems stupid to have closed source for voice recognition when the open source and low price portions are what make the company in the past interesting. With continual closed source I would rather move on to a different platform.

There's lots of these face recognition boards, but the companies refuse to comment on whether they can be used for other object recognition tasks, like a pass/fail on production line widgets. Even the hardware manual for this doesn't describe how it recognises objects

Really hoping the next ESP will have a MIPI CSI/DSI interface.

This board is an interesting idea - but I'd normally expect that there's a way to execute the face / voice recognition routine (or at least a part of it) on some more capable hardware or as a remote service on a server in your LAN or whatever. Otherwise, it's too limited imho. :-/

Thanks for a good video again! Thumb up for all your videos! /E

Honestly, it's pretty shit knowing I can get a pi zero and pi camera for that price, and get much better hardware that's actually capable.

Wonder what price it is?
A home security webcam would be my use, but ESP32 seem hugely inferior to ESP8266 for indoor or outdoor range. Something needs to happen with framerate too.
This was a great heads up, thanks :)

I already ordered Sipeed M1... it seem to be a much better product for this task and more with similar price (from 6$ - with camera, display and WiFi for 19$)

Would be amazing to have an "unknown person" facial recognition alert for ppl at the door and ppl entering the house. think it'd be easy for someone with no knowledge of any of this to set up? I've worked a little with a Pi and Arduino before..
