As a newb, I’ve been battling this dilemma for some time. My clunky work around has been zooming the timeline way out, then move the play head out to beyond the end of all the clips, paste there so as not to mess up the project progress thus far, then manually drag the pasted clip up to the track I want and then the way back to where I want it inserted. PITA yet that was my work around.
This helps SOO MUCH! Thank you.

Excellent - This issue had me stymied for a loooong time. Very frustrating. There are so many controls in DaVinci Resolve, which is wonderful, but OTOH it does take a long time to learn them.
