Whenever a client or colleague sends me an Excel worksheet, I first like to inspect it to verify that the "numbers are really numbers." In my experience, I have frequently found that many of these numbers were actually "numbers stored as text."

Storing numbers as text can happen for a variety of reasons. In this lesson you will first learn how to look for them and then how to change them into "real numbers" so that your calculations produce accurate results.
