The Yorck is a paper ship that was never built. She was designed in the interwar period for the Reichsmarine (which later became the Kriegsmarine) as one of the possible heavy cruiser designs that would later become the Deutschland Class Cruisers. She wasn't selected because she did not meet the requirements of having 11" guns but instead used the same guns and mounts as found on the armored cruiser SMS Bluecher which was a 210mm gun.

In game, she isn't the best T7 cruiser and is kind of inflexible in her play style due to slow turret traverse and poor long range gunnery skills. The lofty shell arcs and slow shell speeds will make USN cruiser captains feel at home but will make those used to higher velocity 8" gunfire feel uncomfortable. She is extremely maneuverable and small in profile which helps her out a lot however she loses speed really quickly in a turn. Overall, I'd put her above the Pensacola for 90% of the playerbase but behind the other T7 cruisers.

I just got this ship last night (from the time of this writing) and I am loving it!

It is fun and easy/forgiving and I don't shoot well long-range anyway. The Torps are fun and the guns sound cool and fire fast enough to have fun. Oh, and it doesn't explode at the first sight of flying shells like some others do! ;)

Hey Urpeacekeer, good review. Just one point though, Yorck is amazing at knocking out engines with HE. Fire midship at pretty much any cruiser and watch them use dam con instantly!

the other battle ship named Yorck is the sister ship of old scharnhorst and Gneisenau, went on tasks with old nurnberg in WWI
the cruiser Yorck that finished construction is from WWI and is sister ship of Roon from WWI June of 1904

Checked their Wikipedia pages, the SMS Roon-Class were built. Yorck was sunk when she hit two German mines after she went through a fog. Roon was broken up.

I remember grinding the german line back during the original nurnberg, after that ship and a few games in this i gave up on the line .

The design was called the I/10 and was a heavy cruiser version of the 1923 KMS Emden. This is an excellent ship, I think. I like the AP on this even at long range. It really hurts other cruisers.

Good review. My thoughts on the Yorck is not a bad ship at all just so differnt that if the KM Cruisers is your first tech tree line like it was for me, then you don't know what to make of this ship. The HE is great, AP is terrible despite the Alpha damage looking insane. It actually had a permanent slot in my port until I unlocked Myoko.

+yourpeacekeeper hey my friend found a few books that have the Colorado class armor scheme that's has more armor in the machinery areas the. In game. "Big Five Encyklopedia Okretow Wojennych 36 by slawomir lipiecki " i guess the armor was increased from the previous Classes armor scheme to correspond with the increased main gun caliber. And the other book "Breyer, Siegfried (1974). Battleships and battle cruisers, 1905–1970 : p.230"

I never shoot AP in deastens longer than 12 km, usually clouser 10km. Ballistics in HE is much better.

frustrating ship ...yes... after new update 7.5 its better then it used to be but i will tell you you will need to upgrade everything to make the ship perform at its maxium ..if you dont you will get angery real quick .. make sure your captin is match up with this ship if not once again this ship will not perform at its maxium.. in my use of this ship i felt like it was like a mixture of a light and heavy cruiser you will need to play med range and use cover as much as you can ... just my thoughts in the german cruiser line up it is the best bang for your buck .. it dont cost that much to service so you want see your credits going away quicky
