Step 1: Turn stove on high.
Step 2: Set timer for 25 min.
Step 3: Leave and don't check on pressure cooker.
Step 4: Return to check out what that noise was in the kitchen
Step 5: Wonder why it exploded.
Step 6: Blame manufacturer.

No. If it really exploded, the pressure cooker would be completely misshapen. Moreover; it would have done EXTREME amounts of damage to anything and anyone around it. You would see steel literally ripped apart, and shrapnel would've gone into/through the walls. You have no freakin' idea how violent a genuine catastrophic failure is with these kinds of pressurized devices. What we're seeing here is the typical result of user error with a pressure cooker.

Please, guys! Pressure cookers are dangerous IF not used properly. Of course, there might be a few that come with a malfunction from the factory. But, the rule of the thumb when using pressure cooker is: NEVER leave it unatended. In case it stops making the hissing noise, stop the flame right away. And NEVER overfill the full capacity of the pan. It's better to cook in stages. But again, Always checking for the hissing noise.

How to paint a kitchen in 5 minutes.  Fill a preassure coocker with your favourite wall colour and start cooking with a manipulated preassure valve.

I'd venture some things went wrong due to human error. First, too much heat, 25 minutes is a long time to leave a pressure cooker going, especially if the heat is too high. Once a pressure cooker gets up to steam, all that's needed is a small flame to keep the steam going. Next, the pot was overfilled, causing the steam vents to clog, defeating all the safety mechanisms. The device may not have been cleaned properly or the lid not properly secured. Used properly, pressure cookers are the best way to prepare most kinds of food. For instance, beef stew can be pressure cooked in 15-20 minutes and it's so tender and delicious, it take 3-4 hours to cook beef as tender via conventional means.

That model of pressure cooker has TWO over pressure safety devices! It appears that in this case the first device in the lid (silicone o-ring rolls out of a groove in an aluminum pin which is then jettisoned into the handle) was plugged along with the normal pressure valve. If this device had not plugged then the overpressure would have been released and the steam would have exited the handle in a symmetrical pattern, forces would have been balanced, and the cooker would have remained on the stovetop. The secondary over pressure device is the gasket itself. There is a hole in the edge of the lid which is covered when the gasket is correctly placed. If the pressure get to great, than the gasket deforms and is pushed through the hole along with the contents of the cooker. This blast of steam and food would cause the cooker to violently leave the source of heat and allow the pressure to equalize in a controlled manner. Without the secondary pressure release device (gasket) the cooker would have catastrophically failed; the lid would have come off explosively, and the range hood, stove, and ceiling would have been severely damaged. This Fagor pressure cooker functioned as DESIGNED! DO NOT OVERFILL YOUR PRESSURE COOKER!

1) Don't buy a cheap cooker, it's an investment, 2) read and follow instructions, 3) never leave a cooker un-attended, it doesn't take long for them to build pressure, 4) don't leave it on for 20-30 mins it only takes 5-10 for most dishes and that's at a low heat once pressure is achieved

Looked like the HAIR CLUB FOR KITCHENS! I’m glad nobody was injured. What a mess. You folks took it quite well. Beautiful floor! I would have asked the neighbors to use their dogs for a lil bit.

Pressure Cooker exploded yesterday at my home. The gas stove also got damaged. Entire kitchen was sprayed with food stuff! Luckily the physical damage to my wife was minimal. The safety valve was intact. The pressure lid was not obstructed. The gasket was perfect. I could not reason out till now, how cooker exploded surpassing all the safety systems. Any answer?

glad to see that no one was hurt!   It only happened to me once many years ago, with beef stew flying everywhere.  What was really scary was that when the lid flew sideways and upward  it hit the glass fixture on the ceiling, all the way over in the dining room,  sending glass everywhere.  Switched to an electric one after that and have been pleased ever since.

"What happened everywhere?"
"Fagor"

Seems to be the "Fagor Rapida" with the green button. The specifications do say "Two independent over-pressure release valves assure no pressure build-up" so something in the pressure cooker malfunctioned. One of the safetly valves should have avoided that.
