Why Is My Nose Itchy?

Why is my nose itchy? I'm Dr. Manan Shah, I'm an ENT and allergist with Wyndly Health. When your nose is itchy, oftentimes, it's due to exposure to allergens. So what happens is, something you're allergic to gets into your nose, your body realizes it's not supposed to be there, or thinks it's not supposed to be there, and releases a molecule called histamine. Histamine is a molecule that's gonna cause your blood vessels to dilate, but it also makes you itchy, and so it's gonna wanna make you itch your nose.

When histamine is released in your skin, you can get a rash and you wanna itch the skin, but ultimately, that's why people take antihistamines like Benadryl or Claritin or Zyrtec, to decrease the symptoms. If your nose is constantly itchy, you may wanna try allergy medications like Claritin or Zyrtec or Xyzal. Ultimately, you may wanna work with an allergist to try to decrease your exposure to allergens, over time, this should allow your nose to stop being as itchy.
