Tom's always has to plug misinformation about used mining GPUs. They are trying to keep people away from GPU mining, whether they are being truthful or not. I do like how they use clickbait headlines with $500 3080's... in China... when you convert from Yuan... but the sellers aren't really selling for $500, it is actually $700+. So in other words, a worthless article that has very little bearing on anything. Yeah, you can get a 3080 used at MSRP, but no you can't legally use it most of the time in China (gaming and mining restrictions). If you want to import it to the US, then it costs far more than $700. Even if US used 3080's hit below MSRP, it is 1.5+ year old tech with the 4000 series coming out in 3 months... terrible buy. Just wait for POS and 4000 series if you want a 3000 series.. you already waited 1.5+ years.

I would buy a miner's GPU over a gamer's GPU.

Many miners are mindful about temps, airflow, cleanliness, humidity because they affect profitability. Further, miners are incentivized to keep their cards immaculate because it will help resale when that time comes. Some gamers, in contrast, are smoking and vaping right next to their cases, and are typically much less mindful about temps and cleanliness and cooling efficiency.

Brandon, you should call your temporary office "the plastic Palace", or "the crime scene".
Love from Yorkshire, England.

Well still I don't see any difficulty drop on any major minable coin, lot of miners are still operational even at these prices ...

AND... What kills hardware is heat cycling (grow-shrink = movement). And mining gpus generally stay at a constant temp.

Gamers are hilarious. Complain for years that the gpus are too expensive and then when they’re dirt cheap they won’t buy any lol

I'm still waiting for further price reductions in the used market, I've previously bought hardware for way too much money, and had buyers remorse.

Some dude selling bunch of RTX 3080 for US 450 now. Asking for identification for proof on the buyer side, which i think is weird. But i know there will be more soon and cheaper as well.

I suspect all other PoW coins will take off in the next bull cycle, there is a ton of hash power that needs a home soon. Smart devs would be wise to start building on these protocols (Eth classic, Ravencoin, Ergo, Etc). PoS is already proving to be a problem, unless you can self custody. Ethereum may have screwed themselves losing all that hash power if people withdrawal as soon as they convert since they locked up people's funds for over a year.

A report claimed that $15 billion in GPUs went straight to dedicated mining rigs in the last 18 months or so. I expect 3080's to be around $300-350 at some point. There's not enough gamers to absorb 15 BILLION worth of GPUs being offloaded.

you mean the bid is 500$, right? The buyout and closing prices are ~680$

I ordered a 3090 for 1300 Canadian. I'll see if it actually works.

I hope prices go down so I can start getting efficient cards for etc and other mining while I also build gaming machines for sale.
