As people prepare their skis and snowblowers with snow on their minds, AccuWeather forecasters predict that the season will be mild for most of the United States, similar to last winter, which was the warmest on record. However, that is only part of the story, as waves of frigid air will periodically send freezing air across the country, along with more chances for snow.

It is warmer with snow on the ground around foundations if you have one. Rainy, cold weather makes it damp, leaves a chill in the bone so turning the heat up usually happens. I love true winters, it snows for a day and a half then the sun appears, perfect.

I have literally never seen one of these months ahead predictions come to fruition. The simple truth is there is no way to really accurately predict the weather months out, there are too many unforeseen factors at play. I can tell you it will most likely be hot in summer and cold in winter, that is the way the seasons work for the most part. Plus the climate screamers just love to predict a warmer winter, it somehow makes them feel better about the global warming fairy tale.

Some of us use another method of predicting the upcoming winter season here in the Dakotas. Spiderwebs. If the spiderwebs are thick and there’s a lot of spiders around then we think we are in for a rough winter season meaning more snow and colder weather ahead.

It is now January well below average (frigid actually) for December and January here in New England. No snow, but way colder than normal. Sorry, don't think anyone can predict long range. And for the next 2 weeks the call is for record cold.
