Chemical Chameleon
The chemical chameleon is a redox reaction between alkaline sucrose (sugar) and potassium permanganate (KMnO4). In this redox reaction KMnO4 acts as oxidizing agent and alkaline sucrose acts as reducing agent. The oxidation states of manganese changes from +7 to +4 in this demonstration. Initially the violet colour of permanganate (MnO4-) changes to blue colour of hypomanganate (MnO43-). It changes to green colour manganate (MnO42-) and it turns gradually into manganese dioxide (MnO2)
Materials required:
Sucrose (Sugar)
NaOH
KMnO4
1 L beaker
Procedure:
Take 10 g of NaOH and 8 g of sucrose in a 1 L beaker and add about 700 ml of water and make the mixture clear by stirring
Take 5-6 mg of KMnO4 in a beaker and add water and make dilute solution of KMnO4
Mix the KMnO4 solution to alkaline sucrose.

Great video! I just want to give you the advise of wearing latex or nitrile gloves when using products containing high concentrations of NaOH.
