Gray Zone Warfare Crashing? BIOS Fix for Intel CPUs with Z790 Chipset

Gray Zone Warfare Early Access can crash, blue screen and even reboot if you play it on a recent high end Intel CPU like the i9-14900K or i9-13900K and have a motherboard with a Z790 chipset.

This will NOT improve performance on lower end computers, it only fixes the crash on high end Intel / Z790 machines.

The fix is to change some BIOS settings. Only change the BIOS if you are a confident computer tinkerer as messing up the BIOS can damage your PC. No liability will be taken for anything that goes wrong on your PC, this is information only.

For MSI motherboards the steps are:
0. Back up your BIOS settings so you can return if there are any problems
1. Go to Overclocking / Advanced CPU Configuration
2. Set Enhanced Turbo to Disabled
3. Set Long Duration Power Limit to 253
4. Set Short Duration Power to 253
5. Set CPU Current Limit to 307
6. Save and reboot

Amazing video, thank you so much. These settings are genuinely safer even outside the scope of GZW, the issue was already addressed by Gigabyte. They put out an update with an Intel Baseline mode for the Power setting, but this mode is still being discussed, so just follow the instruction for now.

I have a 12900k on a z790 mobo. 241w is the max tdp. I set both my long/short duration power to that to be safe. If your temps are too high, you can always bring down your short duration power limit until you start to see that you’re not hitting your set clock speeds

For me my cpu was overheating due to this problem and I essentially fixed it by setting the maximum cpu output from 100% to 99% I went from overheating to only running at 70°ish degrees.

My problem was that for some stupid reason I upgraded to windows 11 from 10 and brought my CPU overclock bios settings along with it. which was fine until I played this one and only game.. crashed my PC completely and restarted it. When it worked completely fine before in windows 10. I had to downclock my overclock by 100mhz from 5ghz to 4.9ghz on my 12700k z690 ddr4 Tuf gaming plus Just to get the game not crash my PC. I also used a method before that in the power plan settings. Changed maximum to 99% instead of 100% and that works with my overclock. But as soon as I put 100% it crashes the game and PC and restarts. Obviously its the game or win11.

This game made my pc blue screen and now every time I start it up it blue screens….. Had to take it down to micro center to hopefully fix the problem. I’m cool on a game you to mess with bios setting in order to play. If any of my components or anyone else’s are damaged due to this game then they should be held accountable imo. Especially when my pc exceeds recommended hardware by plenty…..
