Another survival tip is that if youre ever in the freezing cold and you suddenly feel boiling hot, don’t take off your clothes. You’re actually so cold that your body is using the last of its energy to stay warm. Many people who have died in the cold from hypothermia were actually found to not have clothes on as they fell for this illusion. so even though you feel hot in the cold, resist the urge to take of your clothes and find warmth immediately.

As a marine science student those were some of the most talked about topics before we got onto the marine life topics, bc the teacher was like "y'all idiots needa know this" lol. Loved her 😂

Knowing rip current safety nearly saved my life. I was like 10, my friend 9 (a better swimmer than me), and my sister was 8. We would go far out in the ocean as we were comfortable swimmers. My friends dad had warned us about rip currents before we swam. I ended up getting separated from my friends in a rip current, and knowing this saved my life.

Growing up in a coastal town, we were taught about the dangers of rip currents... Then I visited my friend in Australia who grew up playing in rip currents 😑 They would get dragged out to sea on purpose and then swim back to shore and go for another "ride"

That rip survival thing is probably the most important thing to know here. Another good tip is just not to swim at all if you don't feel confident enough. Rips don't take you out far, maybe 200-300 metres tops, and then you can swim back in with the waves to help you!

i live by the beach and the rip current thing is such an important one every year we get hundreds and hundreds of tourists and it's the main thing we tell them its basically how we greet people like "you're visiting? remember to swim sideways in rip currents!" lol

The rip one isn’t completely true because sometimes the rip doesn’t go directly out to sea, so I was taught to swim in a perpendicular direction (90 degrees) to the rip. It is usually parallel to the shore but in some cases it isn’t. Hope I’m helping

I appreciate you doing these videos. Because so many people make stupid videos with incorrect information. You're more trustworthy than many of these other people..

A lot of you are saying *"He is a surgeon how is he supposed to know this?"* I just wanna say that someone's job doesn't limit their knowledge of the world. It's like the magical knowledge and wisdom Dads get after they become dads. He's a surgeon so what, maybe he is just smart.

Man the piling mountain of hard work sweat and tears you put into this one.

1st: it _might_ be moving towards you, but stay away just to be safe.
2nd and 4th: the patches of very calm and seemingly still water on beachside, between areas with a lot of waves crashing down, are very dangerous. Never go into those "calm" waters, it's where the waves go back in the ocean, and before you know it, you'd swept away far from the shore.
3rd: if someone who should be experiencing hypothermia feels too hot, never let them cool down. The nerves are just too damaged to properly process temperature.

Thank you for checking, sharing and reminding us of this knowledge. You are a very trustworthy source, and manage to use it for the greater good. Take care !

Thank goodness the plastic surgeon said the survival tips were true... I wouldn't trust anyone else on a matter such as this.

Towards you, or away from you. Best to head for shelter no matter what if you can see the tornado though, it can unpredictably change it's path at any moment.
