Here are my thoughts after running Garmin's Livescope next to Humminbird's Mega Live for a few days. Both have their place, but watch the video to see which one I will be using for next season.

Thanks for the video. I'm a Humminbird guy so I've waited for Mega Live, but was interested to see a good, honest comparison and opinions. Good work.

Nice comparison and detailed . How did u install ur transducers on the troll motor shaft? Mega live on bottom and live scope on top or visversa.

I have both units and i can say both are comparable and no one really kills the other. I would tell anyone thinking about them, get one that you can afford. Pros: HB has the black box built into the transducer so you dont have that black box between the ducer and the unit head. Also, I found HB ice bundle to be more affordable then the Garmin. HB is a little more forgiving with setting the Contrast and Sensitivity too. Otherwise, i found both of them to be compatible with one another. What's important is don't kill your wallet and get what you are more comfortable with

What better for you after year using ??

Do you think the clarity comes from the hummingbird being a 12 inch screen and the garmin being a 9 inch?

My mega live looks way better than the one your running. Not sure what the interference is coming from. Also what’s your forward cone angle? There’s adjustments on the transducer mount. You can go from 20° to 60°. I would fine tune that.

Most people say wemust have a 12 inch screen to see properly, , whats your opinion, , i have a issue paying 1000 more to get a 12 inch versus a 9 inch

Do I need a extra battery to run mega live? Or is it provided with energy through the helix unit? Thanks

Garmin livescope is lightyears ahead of Lowrance and Humminbird's comparable products. I still think Humminbird has the best side scan, Lowrance sucks all around, again Garmin has it here.

Having using both recently the Garmin is much faster for response time, the delay alone on the humming bird is terrible. The Garmin settings this guy is using is not very good, gain is too high and other settings too low. Need to crank up color gain to 100 and regular gain to around 55-65 and it changes the game. Soo clear and no ghost tree or any ghost images. You can tell your settings are not fine tuned very good because the ghost tree on your Garmin is horrible. It shouldn’t be there with correct setup. Hummingbird has a super clear background but delay is horrible and you don’t see small jigs and as much detail. For being the last to the game I don’t think they did a very good job.. last thing, the hummingbird interference is the worst I’ve ever seen. Garmin doesn’t care if you have all 3 big brands right next to each other. Hummingbird is un usable if you have it next to a Garmin as it flashes and glitches the whole time like you have a loose connection. Once again, it isn’t up to the same standards as the Garmin, hopefully they fix it fast before too many people write it off and buy a Garmin or lowrance.

Adjust your livescope. Crappiest picture ever on it. Gain is wrong, color gain is wrong. Learn to use it before you make a video of it. Humminbird delay is terrible. Learn the livescope and you will dump the bird in the lake and never look back
