The Mayor of Columbus Ohio has declared gun violence a Public Health Crisis. At the same time, the Ohio Governor just loosened gun laws like Abbott did.

These are parallel crisis, but “the mental health crisis is not necessarily fueling the gun violence”.
If we’re serious about addressing mental health, the biggest funder for that is Medicaid, but Abbott refuses to expand Medicaid as other states have done.

A legal duty for LE to protect those not in their custody (the general public) would be nice too.

I think this is a worthy cause but in the tragic Uvalde murders, the gunmans own mother has a sympathetic bent to what he was feeling. She said “he had his reasons” for murdering those angels. Clearly how could a parent like that (can we call her a parent?!) even be in a position to initiate a red flag warning.
