Overweight man: Spirit Airlines 'embarrassed' me after taking away my seat

A Westminster man who recently returned from Las Vegas with his friends said his flight home on Spirit Airlines was more of a nightmare than he could have imagined.

Overbooking should be illegal. I know it’s a standard business practice, but if you pay for a flight, you should be guaranteed the seats for that flight.

That’s not fair he took steps to prevent an issue, he was very proactive to try to prevent all of this. I feel bad for him.

I have zero pity for obesity. However this man did exactly the right thing. He took accountability, purchased the required space. Was more than reasonable. He did it perfectly right, the airline was entirely wrong.

Overbooking should be illegal. You just cannot sell more seats than you have and then expect people to change their travel plans, because you fucked up.

It’s a very bad situation. If a passenger buys TWO tickets for one person the ticket should be coded as such so the airlines knows those seats are at capacity.

I do respect the passenger. The passenger seems like a nice man. I do respect the fact that the passenger is a considerate person due to how he bought 2 seats knowing how he fits 2 seats and knowing how if he sits in 1 seat, it'll make other passengers feel uncomfortable, crowded, etc. The passenger should have gotten the 2 seats he paid for.

Not everyone that is overweight is that way because of poor choices they have made in life. There's many people who are overweight that are overweight due to poor choices they made in life such as poor eating habits and not getting enough exercise, but there's also a lot of people that are overweight due to medical reasons, having poor metabolism which can make it hard for them to lose weight even when working out or exercising a lot, medication reasons, etc.

No one should be made fun of, bullied, disrespected, picked on, etc due to their weight, but at the same time, there's nothing wrong check up doctors telling people they need to lose weight, gain weight, etc, there's nothing wrong with being honest about what someone's size is, and there's nothing wrong with companies not hiring someone who is too thin or overweight to be a weight loss coach because when someone is a weight loss coach and they themselves are too thin or overweight, it's hypocritical and not setting a good example for clients.

That is way I do not fly Spirit, I always travel with Southwest. My husband is a tall man over 300 lbs and we always pay for two seats for him to be comfortable we have done this multiple times never had an issue with Southwest. And this man did the right thing by paying two seats,  it was the airlines fault not his that they were overbooked.

If he paid for the two seats, and he was able to board and claim the two seats, moving him was a very bad move by the airline.

I feel awful for him because he was very careful in buying his tickets. He was very considerate of others. I believe the airline should fully refund him his money.
