Everyone Loves This Watch Movement... WHY?

The 7S26 Automatic movement by Seiko is a bit of a legend in the online watch space. But it does feature a couple of funky flaws that make it a bit of a dinosaur.

I don't undestand why some people can't set this movement accurately. A very slight backwards turn of the crown stops the second hand. Not as convenient as hacking, but not difficult to do, and it results in perfect accuracy.

They dont hold the same value for money anymore, but before ali express they were the best affordable watches available, by a big brand no less. The movement doesn't bother me as mine is a dress watch I only wear on the weekends (I prefer quartz as a daily) and for the price it looks pretty cool

I've bought NH-35 movement off eBay and swopped them out. Before the pandemic they were £13 each

Indeed, the older 5s are a mixed bag when their used prices start going above, say, $150-175. I recently got hole if a silver dialed variation of the black-dialed 5 in this video, which looks amazing (but it's gaining some 45 sec/day…I'll be taking a crack at regulating that puppy in a week or so), and paid about $135, which to me was fair. At $200+ I'd start looking at "Dress-KX" models. (Hot tip, which you might already know: you *can* "back-hack" a 7S movement's seconds hand - I do this mostly to make sure the minute hands lands where it should, when it should…which is terribly OCD, but here we are.)

It's why i sold my Sea Urchin. It was a great looking watch, but that movement drove me nuts.

Or just when it hits the correct second, at that EXACT fraction of second, have to push the crown. This would be quite difficult in automatic though, Yeah.

25000 dollar watches like vacheron overseas and Patek Philippe Nautilus don't have hacking seconds. It's not that deep not having it in a 100 dollar watch. My seiko 5 snxs looks better than a 6000 dollar oyster perpetual and it will probably last longer without servicing

One thing I just dont get. If you care so much about accuracy why not just get a quartz? Imo the 7s26 is perfect for the Seiko 5, given its price. Also, why care about hacking or hand winding considering it will lose a few seconds, or minutes in a day any day. Not to mentiom, if you have a lot fo watches, and rotate it every day, then the next time you wear it, you have to set the time any way.

They are all 3 bars too, which sucks.

These watches will stop after about 12 hours of not wearing them

I struggle to put up with being 5 seconds out.
Hence gshock band 6

Up to 30 seconds a day? Why not 31 or 59 seconds? Perfect time and accuracy, accuracy or precision. If the watch is +/- 5 seconds a day as standard, after 6 hours it is already 2 seconds out. For a £100 beater are you asking to much?
