102. Bhagavad Gita | Chapter 8 Verses 15-20 | Swami Sarvapriyananda

Swami Sarvapriyananda teaches Verses 15-20 from the Eighth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. This series of talks unfolds the highest truths of Vedanta through the study of "The song of God".

🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 8, Verse 15:
मामुपेत्य पुनर्जन्म दुःखालयमशाश्वतम् ।
नाप्नुवन्ति महात्मानः संसिद्धिं परमां गताः ॥ 15 ॥
māmupetya punarjanma duḥkhālayamaśāśvatam
nāpnuvanti mahātmānaḥ saṃsiddhiṃ paramāṃ gatāḥ
🔴Having attained Me, these MAHATMAS (great souls) do not again take birth, which is the house of pain and is non-eternal, they having reached the Highest Perfection , MOKSHA.

🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 8, Verse 16:
आब्रह्मभुवनाल्लोकाः पुनरावर्तिनोऽर्जुन ।
मामुपेत्य तु कौन्तेय पुनर्जन्म न विद्यते ॥ 16 ॥
ābrahmabhuvanāllokāḥ punarāvartino’rjuna
māmupetya tu kaunteya punarjanma na vidyate
🔴Worlds upto the world-of -BRAHMAJI are subject to rebirth O Arjuna; but he who reaches Me O Kaunteya has no birth.

🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 8, Verse 17:
सहस्रयुगपर्यन्तमहर्यद् ब्रह्मणो विदुः ।
रात्रिं युगसहस्रान्तां तेऽहोरात्रविदो जनाः ॥ 17 ॥
sahasrayugaparyantamaharyad brahmaṇo viduḥ
rātriṃ yugasahasrāntāṃ te’horātravido janāḥ
🔴Those people who know (the length of) the day- of-BRAHMA which ends in a thousand YUGAS (aeons) , and the night which (also) ends in a thousand YUGAS (aeons) , they know day-and-night.

🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 8, Verse 18:
अव्यक्ताद् व्यक्तयः सर्वाः प्रभवन्त्यहरागमे ।
रात्र्यागमे प्रलीयन्ते तत्रैवाव्यक्तसंज्ञके ॥ 18 ॥
avyaktād vyaktayaḥ sarvāḥ prabhavantyaharāgame
rātryāgame pralīyante tatraivāvyaktasaṃjñake
🔴From the unmanifested all the manifested proceed at the coming of the day ; at the coming of night they dissolve verily in that alone which is called the unmanifest.

🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 8, Verse 19:
भूतग्रामः स एवायं भूत्वा भूत्वा प्रलीयते ।
रात्र्यागमेऽवशः पार्थ प्रभवत्यहरागमे ॥ 19 ॥
bhūtagrāmaḥ sa evāyaṃ bhūtvā bhūtvā pralīyate
rātryāgame’vaśaḥ pārtha prabhavatyaharāgame
🔴This same multiple of beings are being born again and again, and are dissolved (into the unmanifest) ; helplessly, O Partha, at the coming of night and they come forth again at the coming of day.

🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 8, Verse 20:
परस्तस्मात्तु भावोऽन्योऽव्यक्तोऽव्यक्तात्सनातनः ।
यः स सर्वेषु भूतेषु नश्यत्सु न विनश्यति ॥ 20 ॥
parastasmāttu bhāvo’nyo’vyakto’vyaktātsanātanaḥ
yaḥ sa sarveṣu bhūteṣu naśyatsu na vinaśyati
🔴But verily there exists, higher than that unmanifest (AVYAKTA) , another Unmanifested, which is Eternal, which is not destroyed when all beings are destroyed.

1. Which one is real? There is no which one. There is only one.
2. From the perspective of this universe it is God.
3. From its own perspective it is the absolute reality.
4. What is it to me? You are that absolute reality.
5. From the perspective of one body and mind that absolute reality is you.
6. From the perspective of all bodies and minds in this entire universe that absolute reality is God.

Swamiji, koti koti Pranaam.
Please clarify what “attaining Krishna” means. Krishna is not an object that we get a piece of. We get light from the Sun and wetness from water. We do not get Grace from Krishna. It is Krishna we attain … in what way and sense?

If what we mean by “attaining Krishna”, is “lose ignorance”, if what is happening is the attainment of Akhandaakaar vritti, leading to Moksha— which is what is implied, I believe— then maybe we need to clearly state it.

Krishna, in so far as he is Viraat, is NOT Atma-Brahm (except that EVERTHING is Atma-Brahm, including Arjun, and Arjun’s dander). IF Krishna is Viraat, then he is an evolute, and not the ultimate.

Very problematic.
